The New Girl

"What subject do we have now?" Tony asked me, flipping the pages of his English textbook.

"I think we have math now" I replied, turning to the last page of my notebook to be sure.

"Ugh I hate math!" He said and fell into his chair.

"Who doesn't?"I rhetorically asked.

"Maya does".

"Of course she does, she's the class topper" I replied and pulled out a bar of chocolate from my bag. "You want?" I asked Tony.

"Sure". He replied and I broke it in half and gave him one. Our form teacher walked in and we all stood up. There was a girl by her side, a pretty girl, she had green eyes and a pointed nose. 

"This is Eve Anderson, she's a new student and we'll be part of our class" she said "l know you'll all make her feel welcomed".

The whole class said "Yes!" in unison, the boys were the loudest. I sat down and turned to talk to Tony but he wasn't by my side. I searched for him with my eyes and I was shocked to see him sitting beside Eve. I felt a bit betrayed when I saw the both of them smiling at each other. Dang it! She had dimples too. Maths teacher came into the class and everyone returned back to their seats, I noticed Tony was a bit hesitant.

"Isn't she beautiful?" Tony asked me staring at Eve, I've never seen him smile so brightly before.

"She is" I replied with a crack in my voice.

"There's something different about her, don't you think?".

"Like what?" I asked, trying hard to deny the fact that Eve was the closest to perfect person I've ever seen.

"I just can't pick a word..."

"Anthony, can I know why you're not paying attention in my class?" Mr Kingston, our math teacher cut him short.

"Nothing sir, sorry sir" Tony said and immediately brought out his math textbook.

"Uh Laila, can I have a pencil?" He asked.

"Why? Where's yours? I saw you with a pencil not to long ago".

"Ah, yes, I gave it to Eve" he replied.

"What?!" I said with my voice raised, the whole class turned to look at me.

"That's it! Evans and Anthony leave my class!" Mr Kingston ordered. Tony and I stood up and walked out of the class.

"Why did you raise your voice when I asked for a pencil?". He asked me when we reached outside.

"What do you mean? I don't understand why you would give Eve your only pencil" I was really trying not to lose it. 

"What's there to understand? She didn't have a pencil, I had so I gave her and what's the big deal, I know you have more than two pencils!" He yelled . He yelled at me for the first time.

"Did you just yell at me?" I asked, I didn't know if I wanted to scream or cry.

"So? You yell at me all the time! It's okay if you do it but it's a problem if I do?!".

"Tony, you..."

"You know what, you've been acting weird since Eve came in. I'll give you some space and time to get yourself together" he said and walked away. This was also the first time he walked out on me. I felt more pain than I did when Kevin turned his back on me. I don't know what Eve Anderson is trying to do but I'll make sure she doesn't get between me and my best friend.
