Daniel returned to the pokemon center to have rowlet healed up. He then talked to his dad about his fight. Luckily, he decided to record the fight on his rotom phone.

"Not bad for your first fight atleast you decided to use rattatas lack of long distance attacks to your advantage, otherwise you would have lost.

Status moves generally work before regular moves. This is why the ratatta always hit growl before your leafage. Finally, quick attack which is a move where the pokemon enters a high speed state which is why it almost hits you before your attack and makes dodging very difficult."

Daniel visited the pokemon center nurse to get his fully healed rowlet back. He then went back to his room to discuss the battle with rowlet before calling it a day.

27th Sept 1020

Yesterday was a big day for Daniel. He got his first pokemon and had his first wild battle. Although he won, it was a close victory. He browsed the internet to learn more about battles along with possible locations on Melemele island where he could find his desired pokemon. He was determined to get a new pokemon before returning to Kanto and then setting off to a gym to learn and train under a gym leader.

New trainers or trainers stuck at a bottleneck with their pokemon generally turned to gym leaders for help. This of course cost money but it was cheaper to request training when your pokemon hadn't even reached the advanced stage, a stage where pokemon generally reached average strength for their line of species, usually a short while after their first evolution. This was more of an undefined stage between rookie and pseudo-elemental pokemon. Of course he didn't have his own money since he was still living off his parents who had given him a trainer budget to help him start his trainer life before his pokemon could reach a stage where he could earn money by himself.

"Hey dad can I use golduck to find me a pokemon to catch?" Daniel asked his dad during breakfast.

"Golduck is only present for your safety. You won't form a bond if you catch a pokemon with external help."

"I know dad. I'll battle it myself I just need golduck to find it for me. After I catch it, we'll go back to Kanto."

"Okay" Daniel's dad replied after thinking a bit.

Daniel set off to Ten Carat hill along with rowlet and golduck. On his way he would battle wild pokemon to gain some battle experience and practice moves. Every time rowlet took damage or got tired he would teleport back with golducks help. 4 days passed this way until he found his desired pokemon.

During this time, he trained his rowlet who had gotten a lot stronger through battles and repeatedly using moves. Daniel also caught a grubbing which was his second official pokemon, which he did not plan to raise. Since pokemon from Alola were rare in other regions he had managed to secure a trade with a trainer from the Johto region. It would take a long time before the trainer went to Kanto so grubbin was sent to professor Oak's lab. They had agreed to keep the pokemon untrained to make bonding easier. This way he had secured a future pokemon. For now Daniel focused on the pokemon in front of him.

Pokemon: Rockruff

Ability: Keen eye

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Rock 12%, Normal 10%, Ground 1%, Dark 1%

This rockruffs rock mastery had surpassed its normal mastery. In the previous days Danie discovered that mastery over same type increases faster than other type masteries. The 1% ground and dark mastery meant rockruff knew a ground and a dark move that he used a few times in the past. He discovered this thanks to the pikipek with grass mastery having bullet seed and his own rowlet gaining ghost mastery after using astonish a few times.

He checked rowlets current progress and compared it with the rockruff

Ability: Overgrow

Stage: Rookie

Moves: Tackle, Growl, Leafage, Astonish, Peck

Mastery: Grass 15%, Flying 7%, Normal 9%, Ghost 1%

He made rowlet practice all his moves frequently, leafage in particular as it was his best move. Despite having 2 normal moves to work on his flying mastery almost doubled. He attributed this to peck having the same type as rowlet. Grass mastery being tripled was natural thanks to the special attention given to leafage.

His training was about to be put to test.
