Chapter 34

Daniel entered Koga's gym. The battle area was a simple rectangular area with a sturdy floor. Most gyms had their battle areas to somewhat benefit pokemon of the type they specialized in. Apparently here the only restriction was that pokemon couldn't use dig and moves like earthquake or magnitude that travel through the floor would have a reduced effect.

Koga didn't waste time and sent out his first pokemon.

Pokemon: Zubat

Ability: Inner focus

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Poison 38%, Flying 30%, Grass 4%, Normal 10%, Ghost 1%

Daniel called his charcadet.

Pokemon: Charcadet

Ability: Flash fire

Tera type: Fire

Stage: Rookie

Moves: Leer, Ember, Astonish, Clear smog, Fire spin, Will-o-wisp, Night shade, Flame Charge.

Mastery: Fire 45%, Normal 15%, Ghost 8%, Poison 2%

"Ember."

"Poison fang."

Charcadet fired an ember at zubat. The zubat swiftly dodged the attack and dived down towards charcadet.

"Dodge."

Charcadet rolled away, barely avoiding the attack. Zubat was unfazed and simply went for another attack.

"Fire spin."

Charcadet let out a stream of fire towards the diving zubat. Jaws made of poison energy were formed in front of zubats face. It bit towards charcadet and tried to escape. The flames let out by charcadet wrapped around zubat, trapping it while dealing damage. The zubat specialized in speed and had tried to use hit and run tactics.

"Ember."

The zubat did not have a way to break out of the fiery vortex trapping it and was force to take the attack. The damage was enough to knock zubat out.

Koga switched to his venonat.

Pokemon: Venonat

Ability: Tinted lens

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Poison 41%, Bug 24%, Normal 21%, Psychic 16%, Grass 10%

Daniel responded by switching charcadet with dartrix.

Pokemon: Dartrix

Ability: Overgrow

Tera type: Grass

Stage: Advance

Moves: Tackle, Growl, Leafage, Astonish, Peck, Razor leaf, Foresight, Trailblaze, Seed bomb, Aerial ace, Pluck, Synthesis, Fury attack, Shadow sneak

Mastery: Grass 74%, Flying 75%, Normal 16%, Ghost 12%

Daniel had made dartrix focus on is flying and ghost mastery. He did not know if the increase in the growth of flying mastery dartrix had would be lost if he stopped being a flying type after evolution. Dartrix had learnt shadow sneak which helped the increase in his ghost mastery.

"Aerial ace."

"Poison fang."

Locking onto venonat, dartrix flew in a completely different direction, avoiding the poison fang. He then bent his entire body midair, completely changing his trajectory and hitting venonat, knocking it out in a single hit.

This was probably the fastest match Daniel had.

Koga called venonat back and sent out muk.

Pokemon: Muk

Ability: Stench

Stage: Advance

Mastery: Poison 63%, Normal 30%, Ground 27%

Daniel switched back to charcadet.

"Fire spin."

Charcadet let out a stream of fire towards muk that wrapped around it.

"Body slam."

Muk's body was surrounded by normal energy. Muk's body enlarged, towering over the fiery vortex that attempted to trap and damage it. Muk slammed its body on a portion of the fire spin, destroying it. The revolving flame collided with muk but the normal energy surrounding it prevented any damage.

"Ember."

"Mud slap."

A small flame collided with a ball of mud, causing both attacks to explode. Charcadet's strongest attack was matched evenly with muk's mud slap, a weaker move from a physical attacker.

Charcadet moved away from muk increasing distance between them.

"Will-o-wisp."

"Mud slap."

Charcadet fired wisps of fire towards muk but they were destroyed by the mudslap. Seeing that charcadet intended to increase distance, muk started moving closer to charcadet.

"Trade with will-o-wisp."

"Mud slap."

Charcadet used will-o-wisp. This time the wisps were a little far apart from each other. Charcadet took the mudslap while muk was burned in the process.

The super effective attack was not enough to knock charcadet out. Daniel switched back to dartrix.

Both advance ranked pokemon faced each other, one of them was burned.
