Chapter 25

"Water pulse."

"Quick attack."

Goldeen emerged to the surface of the water. A ball of water was formed in front of it. Pidgeotto wrapped in normal energy charged at the water pulse causing is to explode and cause damage. Pidgeotto rammed itself into goldeen with some of its remaining energy, causing some damage to goldeen.

After carrying out these actions two more times, pidgeotto had fainted while goldeen had taken some damage.

Rod called out tangela next.

Pokemon: Tangela

Ability: Chlorophyll

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Grass 32%, Normal 14%, Poison 3%

"Peck."

"Mega drain."

Goldeen dived into tangela with its horn covered in flying energy. Tangela's mega drain hit the goldeen while it was midair, knocking it out and healing some of the damage it took from the super effective peck.

Staryu came in next as Misty's final pokemon.

"Swift."

"Mega drain."

Staryu launched stars made of energy at gloom that hit tangela for some damage. Gloom blasted a green coloured energy orb right after, hitting staryu and knocking it in water. Different looking orbs emerged from the point of impact, rushing towards tangela, healing it. Another mega drain would be enough to knock staryu out.

"Rapid spin."

"Mega drain."

Underwater, staryu started spinning. It emerged from tangela's side, hit it like a shuriken and went back into water before tangela could respond to the attack.

"Observe it closely and use mega drain."

Staryu emerged from the water again and attacked tangela with another rapid spin. Tangela fired mega drain in the direction of the fleeing staryu but as soon as staryu entered water, it changed its direction to dodge the attack.

Staryu's speed increased with every rapid spin it landed.

"Poison powder."

Tangela's body shook and a purple cloud formed around tangela. After staryu's next attack, it got poisoned.

Any powder moves were usually ineffective against pokemon underwater. This didn't apply to staryu since it came out of water for every attack.

After a few more unsuccessful attempts at landing a mega drain, Rod gave up attacking and asked tangela to simply hold longer than the poisoned staryu.

However, the damage dealt with each rapid sipn kept increasing with staryu's increasing speed. It wasn't long before tangela was knocked out.

Rod called tangela back to its pokeball.

He had lost his battle with Misty.

Dejected, he left the battle area and joined the students.

Later that night, in the hotel room.

Daniel, Rod and Chris met up to cheer Rod up and to discuss strategy for Chris's battle tomorrow.

Day 2 of the Cerulean gym tour had ended with none of the students winning a fight, a stark contrast from the first day.

Chris hoped that pichu could defeat goldeen. That way, Squirtle could fight against staryu who wouldn't have an advantage in water against another water type.

The next day.

Chris faced Misty at the edge of the pool, the battle area.

He sent out pichu against the goldeen.

Pokemon: Pichu

Ability: Static

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Electric 7%, Normal 5%, Fairy 1%

"Horn attack."

"Sweet kiss."

Goldeen charged at pichu, almost knocking it in the water. However, as soon as the attack landed, a small but visible electric current was seen on goldeen, stopping it from retreating in the water and making it easier for the sweet kiss to land.

Ability- Static: May paralyze opposing pokemon on contact.

Goldeen was paralyzed, slowing it down.

Move- Sweet kiss: Confuses the opponent

Goldeen was also confused.

"Horn attack."

Goldeen gathered energy in its horn and flopped towards pichu who easily dodged the slowed down pokemon.

"Nuzzle."

Pichu rubbed its cheeks and pounced on goldeen. Even though the move was super effective, the overall damage dealt was low.

"Play nice."

Pichu started moving in a way that resembles a dance. The energy released by pichu started lowering goldeen's attack.

"Water pulse."

Misty gave up on landing any physical attacks with the confused and paralyzed goldeen that was having its attack lowered.

Goldeen started attacking pichu with water pulses and after missing most shots took pichu down.

Goldeen had defeated pichu but was left with lowered attack and was confused and paralyzed.
