Chapter 14

The next day, the trio set off immediately.

Their journey up to their usual spot was quick and uneventful. Dartrix and pidgeotto flew a little higher to get a better view for any approaching pokemon. While heading towards the pond they asked their pokemon to lower their altitude. They didn't want to scare away any potential captures. On thrir way to the pond they had already spotted some pokemon they hadn't seen before like venonat and weedle. Daniel scanned all pokemon he could, hoping to find a treasure among their repeated encounters. When they neared the pond, they found a pokemon willing to fight them.

Pokemon: Pinsir

Ability: Mold breaker

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Bug 18%, Normal 31%, Fighting 10%

Seeing neither Daniel nor Chris cared much for the pinsir, Rod stepped up deciding to catch the pinsir.

"Let's go pidgeotto." Rod sent out his best pokemon. Usually he preferred to keep pidgeotto healthy but tangela was enough to take on any magikarp and dartrix was enough to keep them safe from any harm.

"Gust"

Pidgeotto sent out a visible blast of wind. The pinsir used harden, boosting its defence. It was useless against the gust, which was a special attack.

Enraged, the pinsir charged at pidgeotto with its pincers coated with normal energy trying to grab and crush pidgeotto within them.

"That's vice grip." Daniel commented.

Rod decided to not risk taking the attack telling pidgeotto to stay out of the pinsir's reach, chipping it away with gust. Eventually the pinsir decided to escape but Rod simply followed with a quick attack.

Pidgeotto rammed at pinsir's back and Rod threw a pokeball at the weakened pokemon, capturing it.

Pidgeotto wasn't great at special attacks, so it ended up using multiple gusts most which were torn through with pinsirs vice grip. This way pidgeotto ended up using a lot of energy. Luckily, they had reached the pond which was truly full of magikarp. Daniel also found a pokemon to his liking in a nearby tree.

Pokemon: Mankey

Ability: Defiant

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Fighting 34%, Normal 20%, Ghost 4%

They had seen a lot of mankeys before and Daniel also identified a number of them with defiant. He understood how rare wild pokemon that were strong and had hidden abilities were better than most.

He expressed his desire to catch it, claiming that he liked that mankey in particular so they decided to catch the mankey first. The magikarp weren't going anywhere, but the mankey might run off after they attempt to capture the magikarps.

He asked to circle around the mankey since he did not want it to run away, which is exactly what it did as soon as he spotted them.

Unexpectedly dartrix was actually able to one shot it with aerial ace.

"So, this is the power of advanced pokemon." The trio had a new understanding of power levels.

Daniel easily caught the unconscious mankey.

They headed back to the pond and Rod threw a pokeball at the biggest looking magikarp. He caught it without requiring to battle it.

Daniel silently checked its info

Pokemon: Magikarp

Ability: Swift swim

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Water 2%, Normal 3%

'Uhh' Daniel had never seen a pokemon with such stats. He was aware of magikarps powerful evolution but this magikarp was weaker than Chris's yet to be trained caterpie that had two evolutions to progress and had a way to train. He saw the stats of the other magikarp which were similar except for some of them having rattled as their ability. Still he didn't dare to underestimate its potential. There was a lot about pokemon still didn't know.

On their way back they found a pichu unaware of its surroundings nibbling on a berry.

Chris, the only one of them without a new pokemon threw a pokeball at it.

The pichu was alerted and tried to escape but the ball curved midair just enough to catch it. This pichu was too weak to battle and was instantly caught. Daniel and Rod were impressed by their friends pokeball throwing skill.
