Loud thunderstorms rolled in as we hunkered down in our messy shelter, the winds are strong and so is the loud crack of thunder ripping open the skies with immense light as it bursted through the gray clouds.
Joseph was upstairs sleeping after guarding the shelter for the last few hours, nothing new came up and no threats were spotted.
However...
"How about we relocate somewhere much more safer than this makeshift house, up in the mountains is good enough yeah?"
Dunn and Rickford kept arguing about what to do next after the storm passes, the kitchen is terribly littered with all the lying stuff we've thrown around and both of them sat on a wooden table where the map is laid down with markings in it.
Rickford picked up a pin from the table and slammed it in the map where we were located, "We've only been here for 2 weeks and we haven't even explored half of the town, PLUS we don't have enough supplies to get somewhere safe! And if we do get out what happens if we get caught in the storm huh!?" he shouted, rebutting to Dunn who suggested to get out as fast as possible.
But Dunn, as reckless as he is, talked back to Rick "This town is obviously littered with hundreds if not thousands of infected and there may even be a hive of them down there! I'm not going to risk waking them up! We've searched dozens of buildings everyday for supplies and we were only lucky to have found a damn box of canned food if not for them!"
Dunn was obviously paranoid of the things that scatter around the town, although we may have encountered them once or twice in the past week, its not a problem if we're careful enough.
Rickford stood up and faced Dunn straight in the eyes all while shouting "WE CAN'T GO IF WE DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO GO DAMMIT! WE'RE TERRIBLY EMPTY HANDED AND WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE THE REST OF THE MAP IS! YOU WANT ALL OF US TO GO SOMEWHERE WE DON'T KNOW AND POSSIBLY DIE?! WELL FUCK YOU!"
Rick threw an empty can at Dunn before he headed upstairs to cool off, Dunn was just sitting there at the table now wondering what to do next.
I waited for Rick to close the door upstairs before I looked at Dunn "You know, you'll attract more infected just by arguing more than exploring the town down there" I jokingly said to Dunn, to which he responded with a glare.
He picked up the can Rick threw at him and laid it on the table marking another area on the map, "I just want to get out of here, I don't wanna risk anyone or myself to more danger"
We all know he's afraid of fighting the infected, it's been shown ever since our first encounter with one where he was almost bit but just saved in the nick of time by Rick.
He is grateful, but he just can't face the fears that almost killed him.
He walked back and forth doing a monologue about...
"-how we need to get out of here. You're with me Zain right? You and Joseph?"
I zoned out for a moment not paying attention to the rest of what he said from the beginning, I just awkwardly nodded and he just sighed in disappointment, realizing I wasn't actually listening.
"I don't really know any better either Dunn, all I know is that we need to survive, and in order to survive we need to make the most extreme choices."
I stood up while grabbing my chair and dragging it next to the table where I would sit there instead to see the map more clearly.
One big red circle is marked in an area above ground which would indicate a hill, that's what Dunn was aiming for ever since the start of the storm and beside the area is a small village 5 kilometers away.
It's not easy to travel that far with what we have right now seeing the estimate distance we have to travel is almost 19 kilometers, and its 5 kilometers to the nearest village too. While the place on where we are now is only half a kilometer away from town.
I could see why Rick would object to this, and why he would prefer staying here instead of going further.
I turned to look at Dunn standing and staring at the map, possibly zoned out "Though if you want my opinion..."
He then looked at me ready to hear what I was about to say.
"What?"
"In all honesty we should be using the time we have to search this entire town no matter the stuff we find, we had plenty of good loot and there may still be a few areas we haven't come across yet"
I picked up the can that Dunn set in the table where he laid earlier and pinned it in a small square on the map near to our location. That was the town.
"And don't be such a paranoid alright?"
Dunn laid off his hands off the table and wiped his face, he sighed, and finally gave up on trying to move away too early "Fine, we'll spend another week here, and then we get out."
He moved away from me and headed to the stove to open up a fire.
I could still sense in him that he's still not accepting of the fact that not everybody will go this early to move into higher ground, especially when we just set up here 2 weeks ago.
I could also understand why he'd want to move early, since there's so many signs of a possible hive here.
But still, it's going to be a waste if we don't make good use of the area, and not until we searched every nook and cranny.
I heard a clang of metal from the stove and saw Dunn boiling water, he placed a kettle in the stove and there was a mug beside him placed on the counter along with coffee while he was standing there crossing his arms, staring at the fire.
He's been having a lot of coffee ever since he found a stack of them in one of the drawers.
He then turned his gaze at me "You want some coffee?"
"I'm more of a tea person, you can have it," I declined.
The kettle boiled a few minutes later and Dunn started brewing coffee for himself, the smell of the coffee, or what I can describe as Earth shit was around the room and though I don't drink coffee, it's a nicer alternative than having to smell like ass for not having clean water.
"Sorry for the ruckus." Dunn said as he stared at me for a second before moving in to the living room to take some time for himself.
I was left alone at the kitchen sitting at the table wondering what to do now.
Our plan still stays as we still have to find more supplies before we can move out, if the storm dies out tomorrow morning then both Dunn and Rick are going to be the ones next to head to town while we fix up our stuff here back in mother base.
It's also kinda confusing on who to follow since no one here is a leader, so it's not very efficient for everyone to do things on their own but it's every man for himself I guess.
I don't even know what to do anymore.
I could hear a loud thunder from outside and the flash of light illuminated the dark area for a bit.
But then I could hear cans falling from outside the house.
I stood up, my senses tell me that someone may be outside tinkering with something, I walked near the window where I can see the backyard and our pile in clear sight.
The window was covered with rain water and it got fogged up from the vapor, it was blurry and I couldn't make out what was outside the house other than our storage pile.
But I could definitely see a silhouette.
"What the..."
There was a difference on the background from the usual gray, there was a silhouette of a man wearing a coat, the cloth flopped around as the wind flailed it back and forth.
They were facing at the back and I can't make out the rest of their features other than a coat, but then the man turned around, and from the blur of the window I can make out another feature of the silhouette.
There was a gas mask...
I still couldn't see them in full detail but I can make out the important parts, they were a man with a coat and gas mask and now they're staring right at the window.
And the man was just standing there... menacingly...
I let off my gaze from the window and hurried to warn everyone.
Until I heard glass shattering from the living room.
I could hear a barrage of footsteps from the other room, and a mug falling to the floor, the man in the window still didn't move, but there was something else on the other side.
I could hear Dunn shouting.
"Oh for fucks sake not now!"
