Ch 128: Lurking within Shadows

Four nights later, once Victoria was asleep. Kai and a handful of his clan went to the city. On top of this smaller business building. Kai sniffed the air and his ears focused past the average city commotions.

"Aaah!" Kai heard this horrifying scream.

"It's him," next to him, Jack inhaled deeply as his eyes shone red.

Without a second word spoken. Kai, Jack, Glenn, Rome, Ivan, Ace, and the rest that came. Fly off as a lurking silhouette shadow. They land firmly at the entryway of this dark alley. Slowly, Kai and his vampires lurked down unheard in their stealthy pace.

"Ah," a light whisper of this whimper caught their ears as they slick unnoticed. Their accurate sight saw through the darkness no differently than daylight.

Nearing the end of this enclosed alley. They spot a man holding this woman against the brick building. Her body struggled up against him and one leg curled around his calf. Until her leg flopped like dead weight. As the man was gobbling on her neck. He gulped his last morsel and then his other senses kicked in to realize he was being besieged.

Calmly, he dropped the dead woman and pierced his red gaze to find Kai and his clan. His bloody mouth grinned to understand why Kai snuck up on him during his feeding.

Kai plotted his stealthy ambush perfectly at the moment this vampire would be taken off guard because he was too busy feeding. Rather than paying attention to whoever would be sneaking up on him.

"What a delightful encounter," the alpha vampire said, snapping his long fingers. Above them on both roofs were his clan but Kai didn't care about that.

"You best take my wife's scent off your mark." Kai warned, "or else you will lose everything."

The vampire took off his top hat grinning again. He recalled that radiant human girl on the sidewalk four days ago. Then he remembered Kai and Jack were fast to come to save her from him alluring her into his spell. If it wasn't for Kai and Jack interfering, he would have taken her away to feed on her. Thought this other alpha vampire.

All the while, Kai knew the rose had two meanings for their Kind. A rose given with the thorns shaven off meant a cherished love for that woman. But a rose given with thorns meant that woman was marked to be fed on when she least knew it. Therefore what appeared to be a thoughtful and kind gesture was nothing more than a deception.

This was an ancient tradition to mark your prey by the thorns of a rose. That instant smell of blood entering a vampire's nostrils was like feeding a triple dose of endorphin in your veins. And Kai knew this fact because he craved blood like any vampire that was one with his predatory instincts.

"Why, of course," answered this classy vampire. "I wouldn't dare challenge, you Kai. I knew right away she was your mate because I know you'd never dare be with a human girl."

Untrusting, Kai glowered at this alpha vampire. Then he looked at Jack whose senses were overstimulated. Above the starry clear night, the blood moon was capturing and thriving for their Kind. Vampires' and vampiresses' supernatural gifts and senses were enhanced by any ordinary full moon. But a blood moon increased those senses along with wanting to mate.

Being unmated Jack, Rome, and those other vampires with no mates were affected more greatly. Surprisingly enough, Kai had more control right now from already mating with Victoria before he left and he got his fulfillment on blood just moments before.

Unfortunately, the unmated still felt unsatisfied because they wanted to mate but couldn't. This intoxicating arousal ran in their blood as an ecstasy. That craved attention to have a female was dangerously powerful.

Jack stiffed the air and shone his eyes at this other alpha. Then he gave Kai a head motion since he didn't distinguish any danger to Victoria. His one gift would pick up on it quickly if there was by his words.

Kai was satisfied with that. So he gestures for his clan to recede.

They land far away on the sidewalk. And Kai nearly bites his tongue off for not catching the scent soon enough. On the opposite sidewalk across from them. Landed a group of vampiresses giggling and having fun. All were dressed overly sexy in tight dresses or skirts.

Kai chuckled to himself since it was proof his attraction for the opposite sex was entirely cut off from having Victoria. He hissed at his unmated vampires to keep them in line. Ivan, Ace, Glenn, and others helped Kai by doing the same. Rome, Jack, and the other unmated hissed grisly. All they wanted was a peek. There was no harm in a peek.

Kai's eyes rolled, trying not to titter at them. Then he looked over making sure the vampiresses went their way.

Ahead of the group was their Queen leading them. Uninterested or threatened by Kai and his clan, the vampiresses paid no attention to them on the opposite side of the street.

Bloodlust was on their mind to feed on some gullible men. Despite the blood moon casting their sexual pheromones higher than normal. These females weren't interested in mating just yet. Which makes things much easier on Kai and his mated vampires to keep the rest at bay. The last thing he needed was one of his vampires, impregnating another vampiress from a different clan.

Inwardly, Kai smiled to admire the idea that one day Victoria would lead her Vampiresses the same way.

Once they disappeared, Kai rolled his eyes to pick up the scent of his vampiresses. Altogether, they took off to this raving club. Inside reeked strongly of males and females from human to vampire.

One by one Kai lost his mated vampires to their mates. Most of Kai's vampiresses feed now. So it was easier for their husbands to butter them up.

Already, Ivan was kissing all over Mia's neck to get her in the mood. But she played hard to get and turned his game around by walking away. But that didn't stop Ivan from chasing after her like Pepe Le Pew.

As Kai stood aside with Glenn and Ace watching them and everyone else. Rose was at home uninterested in Ace because she was already pregnant. And Glenn's mate was a human teenage girl. In his eyes, she's a kid to him, not a mate just yet. So Kai had Ace, Glenn, and seven others to help him keep things in line.

Rome and Jack stalked out the same interest which was Sharlene. So Kai, Ace, Glenn, and the other seven stood back to see how that would work. Two best friends wanting the same vampiress was always interesting to watch.
