**Ch 286: Campus Library

Friday arrived, and today Rebecca and I agreed we'd meet at the library after classes were over. Once my last class was done, I walked to the library's parking lot and waited for Rebecca to get here. Nine minutes later, I saw her up ahead, strutting this way.

"Let's get this over with because I have plans at seven o'clock," she claimed, being snarky as she walked past me without a glimpse.

"Don't act like I enjoy being around you!" I snapped behind her.

"Whatever, Victoria!" Rebecca snorted, flicking her hair as her hips swing side to side. Which totally brought the wrong idea away from her being a classy girl. Sad to say, she was nothing but a trash bag, wearing tight sexy clothes and lipstick. Her impertinent character killed those pretty looks she had. I thought, huffing as I followed her inside.

One hour later, Rebecca and I were at this round table with five thick open books that were full of gemstones or minerals. Tons of notes were jotted in our notebooks, between us both figuring out what else we needed to finish this project. We were close to being finished, but not close enough. There was still much that needed to be done.

"You know I spoke to Orlando recently." Rebecca's voice gloated as I was writing down that we needed ancient marble and limestone.

Out of the whole time we've been working quietly, I wasn't sure what made her bring this up.

"How is he doing?" I play along to give her nothing to feed off me. Honestly, her jealousy was getting overrated at this point. She's had it all, over me working hard to earn my keep. Sure, Orlando gave me the world, but I still earned my achievements, and being married to Kai has its benefits, however, I still thrive on my independence.

Instead of fully answering my question, Rebecca gloated, being malignant with her scheme to pester me. "Better because he asked me out on a date this Saturday."

"Good for you guys," I bluntly say without an ounce of emotion. She's likely lying because I knew Orlando couldn't stand her. More than once, she tried stealing him from me, but he shot her down every time. This is part of the issue on why she is very rancorous towards me.

Since her plan to aggravate me failed, I saw she gave me a baleful glower across the table. Deep inside, I was laughing insanely, yet I didn't dare show it on the outside. I'm not one to buy into such fatuous games. For a young adult, she was being petulant for her age. To witness her shallowness was downright hilarious.

In the middle of my inward gloat, Rebecca's eyes seemed to twinkle into a dreamy haze. I looked behind my back and didn't see any guy that she'd be into. Among the large library was your typical book nerd kinda guy. Sure a handful of them were cute, but they weren't Rebecca's type. Is what I thought until another masculine face turned from the librarian's desk. My ears started to ring, and my heart began to pump faster. The sheer soul inside me left once Athena's husband made eye contact with me. A devilish sneer curled his lips.

Shaken up, I turned forward toward Rebecca as she asked. "Does my makeup look good?"

"Huh?" my mind was busy panicking, right when she had to ask such a pointless question.

"Don't you know who he is?" Rebecca's mouth hung wide.

"Sorta," I stuttered. "I don't know his name though."

Rebecca rolled her eyes, acting snarky. "You're kidding me, right?" she mocked. "That's Seth Greenworth. He coaches Shinedale University, and his wife Athena is a cheerleader captain and coach like me."

"I met Athena more times than Seth," I replied vaguely, hoping to drop this conversation.

"Oh, my gosh!" Rebecca squealed. "He's coming this way!"

"What?"

Now my heart hammered up into my throat, and I felt like vomiting.

"Hey Rebecca, how's it going?" Seth stood right next to my side, and my body froze from the terror pulsating through my blood. Having quite the willpower, I hid my fear and didn't dare make a move. I'd imagine Rebecca didn't have a clue that Athena and her husband Seth were perilous vampires. What made this situation worse was that they both wanted me dead.

"I'm magnificent! How is the family doing?" Rebecca batts her eyelashes, trying to captivate him.

"They're doing swell." Seth chuckled as he eyed me for a second.

"Don't mind her, we're just working," Rebecca laughed and disdained me.

"Victoria, it's nice to finally meet Kai's wife." Seth played dum, holding out his hand, but I just stared at it. "I guess you don't remember meeting me at the white hall courthouse?" he snickered, and unlike Rebecca, I knew the true meaning behind his malign words.

"It's not wise to stray too far from your mate. Unlike him, I'll drink your soul." I recall back to what he said to me on that very day I learned Kai was a vampire.

"I remember," I faintly muffled.

His grin sneered into my soul as his one word cut deep. "Good!" Finally, he stepped away from my side. "Have a nice day, ladies."

Just like that, he walked away from sight. Once he did, Rebecca collected her composure before she started to work again.

Another hour had gone by, and we were finally finished for the evening. I gawked at Rebecca as she gathered her stuff.

"Aren't you going to help me put the books away?" I gruffed lowly.

"Sorry, but unlike you, I have a social life," she replied, disdaining me again.

Before I could stop her, she was treading across the library. I huffed, annoyed. Then I started to put all the books we used back. Everyone was clearing out because the library closes early on Fridays. Due to courtesy, one of the library rules on Fridays was to put the books back where you found them. This way, the librarians could close up earlier.

"And the last book goes here," I said, talking to myself.

"Good, I've been waiting for you to finish up."

Fright tingled my skin to recognize Seth's voice behind my back. My body was spun to face him before he pinned me against the bookshelf. Sheer paleness whitened my skin to his bloodred gaze, staring into my soul.

"Let me go." I shudder, terrified of him.

Seth growls viciously. Then I was pulled into his sturdy vast torso. Whiplash cracks my neck. My head spun in circles as he traveled too fast. I get whipped around like a ragdoll because he didn't care to be gentle with me.
