The conversation ceased in the living room of Ven's house when Mae entered, Baas rising to greet her. The tension in the air was thick, near suffocating, and time crept as Fon stood from the couch and reached for her.
"Mae," Fon spoke with a sense of desperation. Her fingers quivering as Mae took hold of her hands. "Mae, please… please tell me it's not true. Tell me he's not responsible for what happened."
"I'm sorry. I can't do that," Mae replied, and Fon sunk to the floor, Me'Lau instantly dropping down beside her, wrapping a comforting arm over her shoulder.
"It can't be true…" Fon muttered, gasping as she buried her face in her hands.
"Fon, the only thing we know for certain is that Iozin didn't dispute the charges or claim his innocence," Mae explained taking a moment to look over at Xial and Strativar in the doorway, shaking her head at them as a signal to head into the kitchen.
