Mae had managed to sleep well, despite the circumstances, and morning found her curled up against Baas' chest with the heat stone between them. It was a strange, old, familiar feeling, to be nestled against someone else, their warmth and smell, the comfort of the bed, and the cool, fresh morning air. The quiet sound of lingering drips of water, left behind by the storm, and the scent of the mist and dew as the sun began to rise.
Absentmindedly, snuggling closer, desiring a few more minutes of peaceful slumber, Mae refused to open her eyes, hoping that lingering dreamy state would hold her in that moment, so she could keep pretending, he was Jack.
It had been different when she slept alongside the Ji'vie, their skin had a different texture and they didn't radiate heat the same way. With them, it was more like sleeping next to a pile of hairless dogs, comfortable, but in a different way.
