I went home and noticed a letter on the kitchen counter.
"Dear Jackie,
I took an extra shift today and I won't be back until later tonight. Julius will be with Mr. Wilkonson for the afternoon, so the house is yours for a while. Don't do anything crazy or you'll be grounded on the spot. You can go to your friend's or invite them over, but no parties and not too many. I know you're a good child, but I don't know if you'll stay like that forever.
-Mom"
I left it on the counter and walked upstairs. I saw a large box on my bed. I opened the box and saw the cutest puppy ever. It was a extremely young huskey. I picked it up and a letter fell off it's collar. I read the note twice and called the number it had listed on it.
"Hello?" I said in a shaky tone.
"Cole Lightingale speaking. May I ask who's calling?" that name was familiar.
"Jaclyn A. Parker." I said as I heard a gasp and a cheerful laugh.
"I'm sorry I couldn't make it to see you now, but I will be able to see you again."
"Again? I don't think we've met, Cole."
"I knew you wouldn't remember me. Your mother probably doesn't talk about your childhood anymore, but I'm your father."
"Right, and I'm married to a famous landmark. My mother told me he was dead." I said as I held the puppy in my arms.
"I never died. Well, only to your mother, but you get the point. Have you ever wondered why you're German? That was me. If you ever wondered who your mother punched onto a wall, that was me." he said as I remembered the event of when my mother left my father and moved to Toronto.
"Shut up! You can't be my father because he left me behind years ago!" I said as i quickly hung up.
I made the conscious decision of calling my mother.
"I'm guessing you opened the gift from dad."
"I don't believe he's my father."
"I know you have the old photo album. The man you saw in the photos is your father. The man who you just spoke to is your father." she said. "I lied when I said he was dead. I lied about a lot of things when it came to the topic of your childhood, but now you know the truth. I have to get back to work, we can talk about this later." she said as she hung up.
I put my phone down and played with the puppy. I began to think about naming her Grey because of how she looked. I grabbed my ohone after I heard it ring.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Ty and Kam said.
"Thanks guys. I have something to tell you Ty." I said as I began to tell Ty what had just happened.
