ch 7

Looking around it seemed only a few minutes went by as no one came to find me after my parents exited the room not sure what to do I decided to looking around the estate and see what is going on as I had no plans to spend my entire day within this room as I stepped out into the corridor I immediately noticed how empty it was which was extremely unusual considering usually no matter where I was within the estate I could usually find at least two servants.

As I continued to wander I finally found someone after an hour and a half searching my half brother Douglas the second son of the first wife and the most laid back of my siblings to the chagrin of his mother except now he didn't seem to be relaxed but distressed to the point that he doesn't even notice me approaching.

Rick:"Douglas what is going on why do you seem so stressed?"

Douglas:"Ah Rick! I'm sorry its just that I am on edge after finding out about the assassination attempt no one is saying anything and father is rounding up the staff when was the attack? who was behind it? no one is telling me anything!"

Rick:"Calm down I understand..."

Douglas:"I'm sorry but no you can't possibly understand you are only the son of a concubine no one would directly target you unless all other qualified heirs were dead or you were directly elevated by the emperor the most you have to worry about is which family you will marry into or become an off world noble maybe becoming a bureaucratic landless noble"

Rick:"Douglas I was the one who was targeted" I said with an even voice trying to hold back my anger

Douglas:"Oh...I'm sorry.. but are you sure that it was you that they were after?"

Rick:"It couldn't be clearer they sabotaged my awakening"

I recounted my awakening obviously leaving out major details as I don't want others know everything about me or what my catalyst was although I didn't expect to be able to keep that part a secret too long as almost the entire medical staff knew and I was sure whatever spies that exist in our home would report back to their masters or one of staff would gossip about it because of how unheard of it is all I could do now was try to slow the spread of information as much as possible for now at least until I gained a better understanding of what I gained from my awakening to use to my advantage.

Douglas:"I didn't expect that they would actually target you" relief clear on his face before he realizes and tries to hide it

Rick:"Yes, they are and I am glad to see that you have finally calmed down even at my expense"

Douglas:"I'm sorry I didn't mean it that way while I'm relieved that it's not my life on the line it doesn't mean that I am that yours is"

Rick:"Douglas right now I don't care about this I want to know where father is and what is going on rather quibbling over semantics"

Douglas eventually led me to the security office where everything has become hectic as people are doing everything possible to cover their asses especially when my father discovered a massive failure on their part from his son instead of his security team who were supposed to prevent these things as well as servants of the house being thoroughly interrogated while the chief security was the most desperate to find results as my father vented his anger and displeasure it seemed he seemed like he would not stop yelling any time soon until I heard a shriek of fright and pain as a maid was thrown through the door opposite of me cuts all over her face and body followed by a psychotic looking priestess Alyssa and a severely pissed off version of my mother that I have never seen before.

It can be said that it is actually natural for spies to exist in every noble home although they are actively hunted by security it is impossible to catch all of them especially in a rapidly expanding house such as ours but there was an unspoken rule against assassinations between noble houses this was used to prevent more powerful houses from eliminating weaker ones but from look on my mother's face I think that rule was broken.

Dad:"Jennifer is she the one?"

Mom:"Yes"

Dad:"Did you figure out who sent her?"

Alyssa:"Yes, I caught her mid call on a secret communication device reporting her failure and continued observation for the Frozen-Sun family"

Dad:"That can't be they are our long time allies..."

Mom:"Its true Eric I happened upon that miserable bitch around the same time as Alyssa and heard everything the one speaking on the display was without a doubt baron Wilson Frozen-Sun"
