The World Will End and I Couldn't Care Less

Yui, a NEET girl living in Seoul, gave up trying to save the world. She spends her inifinite amount of time binge watching anime and manga, showering her favorite authors with gachapons, and writing webnovels for which she will never get paid. Only way she might start to care is if she found someone worth her effort to save. But even if she did find someone, will she be able to stop the apocalypse? "When routine bites hard and ambitions are low And resentment rides high, but emotions won't grow And we're changing our ways, taking different roads Then love, love will tear us apart again Love, love will tear us apart again" - Lyrics from Love Will Tear Us Apart. Joy Division. 1980.

Just as planned

Haein gave me a black notebook, looking eerily similar to Death Note, which detailed the perpetrators of her pain now destined to be my victims.

It was in part a diary and part an information summary. The poor girl must have never gotten over what happened to her in the past (who could have?). She obviously kept a tap on where they were, what they were doing, and various juvenile and implausible plots to exact her revenge on them. The journal was sprinkled with a lot of expletive curses written on the margins and sketches of the bullies as evil creatures with their faces scratched out and all that too. Full-on psycho style, but she had an excuse to be one. Nevertheless, since those caricatures were useless she also supplied me with the most recent pictures of her targets to help me identify them.

The first one I decided to target was a girl. Supposedly the easiest target as advised by the long-suffering victim. She wasn't physically strong or particularly well-built. Smaller and weaker than me for sure - so I was told.

The main reason for picking an easy target first was because by killing her, I would increase my power which should help me fight the other bigger, bulkier, and scarier guys later on. Also, this girl was in the final year of high school (which Haein had already dropped out of at this stage) and there was a specific route that she took on the way home from her cram school which included going through a quiet back alley in one of the many residential areas in Incheon.

So this girl did such cruel things to her classmate but now she's studying to go to a university…

She's probably forgotten about it all and had an enjoyable high school life. Apparently, she was doing quite well at her school too according to Haein. So if left alone - and if there was no apocalypse - this girl probably has a decent future ahead of her unless she fucks up in her final exam.

She'd go to a reasonably recognizable university, make friends, perhaps meet a future husband, graduate, get a decent paying job, perhaps get married, have kids, and live happily ever after while Haein's life was fucked up and the poor girl had to live with a scar on her back for the rest of her life.

Fair enough.

If I had to kill someone on my way to fight the Hell Beast I might as well start with this girl.

One thing that bugged me though was that after I woke up again on October 1st, I found that my previously built-up strength was completely gone. I found out the hard way when arrogantly punched the concrete wall immediately after I woke up. I thought I almost broke my fist there.

I had to rely on a weapon. That was for sure. While an axe worked very well on Halloween night this was a regular weekday night in October and there was no way I could carry such a thing around on the street. So instead, I settled for a kitchen knife that I used before to kill the landlady earlier.

Who knows? With enough practice, I might even become a dual swords-wielding female ninja warrior or something.

Just as planned, the girl appeared around the corner of the back alley at the approximate time Haein had given me - fifteen past ten PM.

I hid behind a trash container where she couldn't see me on the approach and my plan was to jump on her from her blindside as she walked past.

Now all I had to do was wait quietly and bide my time.

I could hear the unsuspecting girl's footsteps and took my knife out quietly. I crouched as low as I could and as I hoped, she walked right past me without noticing I was there.

OK.

One.

Two.

Three-

As I jumped up, there was a sudden big rattle on the trash container.

FUCK. Did I bang on to it?

No time to think.

I made a dash toward the girl I had to kill and she turned around to find me as well, but she was…

Smiling?

Then I felt something barge me on the back really hard, making me tumble forward and drop my weapon. Soon something pressed me down really hard on my back, making me immediately gasp for breath as the girl I was supposed to kill took slow steps to approach me, sniggering.

"Ah, look at you. Our new toy"

What…?

Then I got a little smack on my head.

"Hey, bitch. Don't get any fancy ideas. You scream, you die"

It was a voice of some guy and only then I realized the sudden barge on my back and the pressure I was feeling was a man holding me down with his knee against my backbone.

"AAAAAAAAHHH!!!"

I screamed for I had no fear of death.

:Smack:

FUCK THAT HURT.

But no fear. It was nothing compared to when I got stomped to death, or exploded, or literally disintegrated into a thousand pieces.

"HEEEEELP!!"

:SMACK! SMACK!:

I got punched on the side of my head twice. Very hard.

It made me feel dazed and all I could think was that I gotta get outta here.

I started to scream at the top of my lungs non-stop and the big dude whose face I was unable to see yet started to strangle me.

Yeah, just go ahead and fucking kill me. I will kill you next time you fucking prick.

"Step aside"

The petite girl, my initial target, crouched in front of me and told the dude to back off.

Just as I thought they may have changed their plans after my unexpectedly strong resistance, I saw the girl take out some sort of a device from her bag. I quickly realized what was coming.

"No! No! Noooooo!"

:Zapp:

I blacked out wishing that the shock was enough to kill me.
