How It Went

"I'm here to file a police report." Kat had mustered up her courage to go to the local police station. Last night was the first instance that Richard had gotten physical with her. All because she had sworn to do to him as he had done to her. Which was clearly a terrible mistake.

"Okay, no problem. Step on in, what's the report that we would like to make?" One of the police officers had her sit at his desk as he pulled a screen up on his computer.

"An assault. Against me." She didn't understand why she felt so ashamed to say that? Like it was her fault! Like she was the reason why that bastard had been violent to her?!

"Ok. Let's start with your name."

She gave it to him. Followed by her address and other personal information that he needed.

"The name of the aggressor?"

There was a long pause. She felt sick as the name came up in the back of her throat.

"Richard Gibbs."

Kat felt an odd shift in the air as the room oddly got quiet around her. The police officers that were chatting away next to her halted their conversation mid-sentence.

Although they tried their hardest not to look directly at her, they made sure that their ears were perked towards her. They were intently listening in.

"Ok. I need the details of the assault ma'am."

And for a full hour, the interview went on as the police officer asked details and typed them in.

Afterwards he promised to email a copy of the report to her and had her sign a consent form to release the information to her. Katalina Hunter, she signed. She still was unmarried in the law's eyes since they had yet to file their marriage. In that, she was grateful for holding off on .

"Alright. You are all set. We will...uh...look into this matter and notify you when we know something. Alrighty?" The male officer escorted her out the front doors of the police station.

Oddly enough, when the spring wind blew past her she didn't feel a sense of...freedom. She didn't feel like a weight had been lifted off of her shoulders. In fact.... she felt worse. It was a woman's sixth sense. And that sense was always right.

"Come in."

Kat made her way into the study of the Gibbs' Mansion. After Kat made her secret escape to the police department, she still had to pretend to be the dutiful wife before the investigation would start. She didn't want to awaken the beast as she had done last night.

So to play it safe, she remained completely silent around him until he had ushered her to get dressed and come with him to his parent's house.

'He wouldn't be afraid that I would show his parents?' she thought. But of course it dawned on her. There's no way a parent is not aware of their beloved son's most particular habits. Especially the habit of beating on women.

So, she had dressed in a coat with a scarf wrapped around her neck like he ordered and obediently got in the car. She had to admit that she was extremely terrified at the drastic change in the man whom she thought would be her partner forever.

Kat stepped slowly into the study and stared at Michael Gibbs, Richard's father. He was sitting at the desk across the room reading a document in front of him.

Michael Gibbs was a retired judge and excellent figure in the media. He was always known as an upright judge who would demand justice no matter what!

"Hello, Mr. Gibbs." Kat did a small bow of the head as the older man stared bullets into her face. Why was he mad and why did he ask to see her? Could it be that Richard told him of what he had done!? Maybe he was here to give her the 'justice' that she deserved?

"Don't Mr. Gibbs me you little slut."

Shocked beyond comprehension, Kat's eyes widened. She had never been so disrespectfully talked to her in her entire life! She was no coward and intended to stand her ground!

She opened her mouth to refute but then stilled as she remembered Richard. And last night. If she said anything out of pocket to her father-in-law would that enrage Richard? I mean, Richard did look up to the old man as though he were God himself.

"You think you could just falsify a police report against my son!?" He jerked out of his seat, bringing the chair he was sitting in crashing to the floor. He had snatched off the rimmed glasses that sat atop his nose and threw them onto the desktop. He picked up the document and threw the papers he had been reading towards her.

As each paper fluttered to the ground, she could catch glimpses of wording on the documents. Assault. Choke. Glass. Violence. It was her police report! The same report that she had signed for them to release to her! They hadn't given her a hard copy of it because they had promised it would be emailed to her instead! How. How did he get this?

"Well look here you little whore. I tolerated you because Richard said he loved you and couldn't be without you! But now you try to spread lies to get his money!?" He stepped around the desk slowly and approached her as he growled the words through his thin lips.

Michael was about 56 years old and a tad bit shorter than Richard's 6ft stature. He had pale skin and grey hair slicked back in a neat fashion. His belly hung over his belt that held up designer suit pants. He slowly strode over to her as he grumbled more insults to her way, leaving her with no room to spew any back. Rather, she didn't spew any back because she was terrified of the consequences.

Michael stood mere inches from her and spat in her face. Shocked at the degrading attack, she hurried to wipe her face with the scarf dangling around her neck.

"Think again you little bitch." Michael was a few inches from her face as he spat out the warning. He made his way past her towards the door.

He opened his phone as he went, to make a call to a higher executive of her company. He purposely talked loud so that she could hear him. To sum it up, he basically was letting her know that her life now was going to be a living hell. A hell that she soon realized she would just have to put up with. A hell that was so terrifying.

Afraid? Kat? No way would she be afraid! But then again.....she had never been through a situation like this. A situation where it seemed like the only way out was to run. But where? When citizens need help, they call law enforcement, right? But what happens when the one enforcing the law is the one that you are reporting about?

I hope you guys stick out this long journey with me! I promise you won't regret it!
