As the sun rose, people and animals alike had started to wake up. Luciel, being one of them slowly sat up on the edge of his bed. After taking his quilt off, he felt a rush of cold air. The window was open. Wait, why was the window open? he thought. He started walking towards the window barefoot on the cold hardwood floor. It slightly stung his feet but all he was thinking was to close the window before it got even colder.
Grabbing both the sides, he tugged the window back and closed it with a little latch. Running back over to his bed, he slid his feet into a pair of warm fur slippers. Staring over at the closet, he decided he needed a new change of clothes. After making his way to the closet and putting on a new pair of wool pants and a wool shirt, he went over to open his door. Looking down the hallway, for some reason, it felt empty.
He decided to go check his parents bedroom to see if they were still sleeping or not. While walking the few steps it takes to get to his parents bedroom, he felt the floor beneath him crack.
Thud. Falling threw the floor, he partially got stuck. He screamed in agony when a piece of the floor stabbed into his arm. Eyes watering, he looked around to see if his parents were there. They weren't. "Mom? Dad?" he said in a shaky voice, no one responded. Seeing as hes not going to get any help, he slowly tries to pull himself up.
After giving it a few tries, he had climbed out just enough for his waste to be above the floorboards. Lifting his legs out of the hole, he collapsed on the ground and passed out due to over exertion. He wasn't very strong, so being able to pull himself out was a big feat.
A few hours later, Mr. and Mrs. Varr had come back home after being called into the authorities office for unknown reasons. When they saw there only son just laying there with an injured arm, they rushed to help him. While treating his wound, he seemed to be healing way faster than anyone should be able to. They had put a simple pulp on it and wrapped it up with a bandage. They would change it at least twice a day. Though they didn't put it on the third day as it was basically already healed.
Luciel had been fully healed in the span of two days, but his parents were worried as he never once woke up. On the third day, he had woken up after having a nightmare of being forgotten. He looked around the room in a cold sweat only to realize he was laying down in his parents bedroom. Soon after, his mother had walked into the room with a bowl of porridge. Seeing that her son was awake, She had set the bowl on the nightstand and gave him a big bear hug.
"Your finally awake." Her eyes started to water. Luciel hugged her back just as tightly, they stayed like that for awhile. When they finally let each other go, his mother told him that he was out for 3 days. Coming back to his senses, he looked at his arm to where he was "impaled" with from a piece of the floor. Only to find that there was only a small scratch still left of it.
Looking up questionably at his mother, she just shrugged and told him she had no idea why it healed so fast. "Oh, did you figure out why the floor had caved in?" Luciel said slowly, for remembering the cause of what happened. "It seems like the floorboard you stepped on was a rotten one, even though we redid the floor a few years ago. I guessing some mold got to it." His father walked into the room as he answered his question and walked over to him. Pulling them into a group hug, again, and afterwards they where all smiling.
His dad was the one to break the hug and started to talk in a serious tone, "Son, I think its about time to tell you why you hair is never to be seen by anyone." He decided that it was best to tell him now as something bad might happen soon. Ever sense they had gone to the authority office, they had a bad feeling. As Luciel had listened to his dad, the color slowly drained out of his face. If someone had even seen him once, he and his parents would suffer a painful death.
Meanwhile, a few hours prior to Luciels incident, The Varrs had been called to the authorities office. The reason they were called there was as a passerby had seen a, "white haired child", in their home. It took a few hours but they had persuaded them that there was no such thing in there home. The officers didn't believe them, but supposedly let them off the hook, for now.
As they were leaving, one of the officers had put a tracking and sound recording device on them enchanted with an invisibility spell that would last for the next week. During that week, they would listen to the audio to confirm whether or not that there was a cursed child present. If there was one, another "hunt" would begin. An event that hasn't happened sense at least a few decades. Far in the distance, you could hear lighting strike.
Though many people thought that being born with white hair was impossible, there was many myths and legends about them. The people who caused great havoc, grief, plagues, you name it. Parents would scare their children with stories like these to behave or they would become cursed. No one would want to be caught dead like that. Once one was found out, they would be hunted down for the rest of there lives.
By saying anyone having white hair, I don't mean old people. Most people don't get past their 50s in this world unless there nobility, royalty, or high level adventurers. Even then high level adventurers are mostly blinded by greed and get themselves killed while trying to defeat higher level monsters for the money. In old age, people tend to get various shades of grey hair instead of white. Well at least it works like this in this world.
