CHAPTER SEVEN

Sarah lincoln sat on a couch in their living room with her mother by her side and her father, sat on the couch opposite to theirs. The silence that ensued among the three spoke millions. Sarah looked at her mother with a teary eyes and asked " what's wrong with Alex mom?"

"maybe he is just a little upset that the wedding date was picked without his knowledge"

"that's not it mom, he doesn't feel the same way I feel for him, the affection isn't just there"

"he will as time goes on"

"he doesn't call me, he doesn't want to have me around, the last time I asked to sleep over at his place you needed to have seen the way he reacted"

"everything will be fine my dear"

"when mum, he just called off the wedding, mum" she called

"I will talk to mr pitt, he should talk sense into his son's head" her father said angrily

"do you think he has someone he loves and his seeing?" her mum asked

"I don't think so, he wouldn't have agreed to the engagement if he did, with that temper of his"

"he will come around Sarah, don't worry" she said and hugged her.

"You've been like that since morning, are you fine?, you've been quiet"

"I have a lot going on in my head Fred"

"the girl at the supermarket, talk to me about her Alex, am your friend"

"I miss her, I want to see her badly" he said with soft tone

"then go see her Alex"

"to go do what?"

"Alex"

"the wedding is in two weeks time and I just bluffed yesterday night I don't even know what to do"

"think about that later Alex, go see her, who knows she might be waiting for you" he said and the door flung open and close and Fred jumped on his feet and Alex did the same "mr chairman" he said and bowed his head

"I want to have a word with my son"

"yes sir" he said and left. Peterson pitt sat on one of the couches and Alex left his seat and sat on the other couch opposite to his.

"Alexandra" his father called

"yes" he replied

"you really need to work on that nasty temper of yours and you should call Mr Lincoln and tell him the wedding date still stands"

"it doesn't, I don't want to marry Sarah dad"

" you will, do you know what benefits comes with having her as your wife?"

"that's it, all you know is business"

"you are a businessman Alexandra you should be buisness minded"

"dad why don't you just for once allow me do what I want"

"you are getting married in two weeks time understood" his father said and he chuckled

"will you bundle me up and drag me to the altar or will you force me to take the vows"

"Alexandra" his father yelled

"I have a meeting to attend and a place to be so if you will excuse me" he said and stood on his feet

"you dare not walk out on

me" yelled his father and stood on his feet" have a rethink" he said and left.

Josephine stood in front of the supermarket and sighed" he won't come today again" she thought and sighed again, she peeped at her wristwatch and it was past 8. She was about to leave when she heard a voice from behind her, " the store is closed already" he said and she turned to face him and her face brightened with joy and she grinned happily

"Yes, we close by 8 pm" she said.

"oh I see" Alex said and kept his hands in his pocket

"what do you want?" she asked and wouldn't mind if she has open the store again to attend to him

" nothing, I just wanted to say hi" he said and she smiled. and then, she noticed he looked sad, like he had a lot on his mind, she wanted to hug him and tell him everything would be okay but she couldn't, she just stood there staring at his sad and expressionless face.

"you look down, are you okay" she asked worried.

"hmmm"

"you don't look so"

"it's just a little problem, I will be fine"

"have you had dinner"

"no, I just closed from work"

"did you come with a car?" she asked

"hmm it's over there" he said and pointed at the red sport car that was packed across the street

"come follow me, let's go"

"where to"

"to have dinner and breathe fresh air"

"alright" he said and followed her. She took him to a small canteen and they took their sit in on a low and small stood, sitting opposite each other. " give us two bowl of soup and two bottle of palm wine" she ordered

"coming" said the canteen woman

"I shouldn't drink I might have a stomach upset again"

"one bottle wouldn't hurt"

"what about you"

" me, am immuned to alcohol" she said and he chuckled

"oh" she said and shrieked with joy

"what ?" he asked

"you laughed" she said and clapped her hands happily.

"here is your order" the canteen woman said and placed the plate of soup and two bottles of palm wine on the table."enjoy"

"thank you" Josephine said and the woman left

"go on, eat" she said and handed him the spoon then she started on her soup. Alexandra stared at her in admiration,he felt comfortable around her despite the surrounding, he found comfort in her presence and he wanted to rush into her arms and feel her warmth surround him but he just couldn't.

"stop staring at me and eat" she said to him and he cleared his throat. He picked up his spoon and stared at the strange meal that was in front want him and began to eat slowly and they ate in silence. After their meal, Josephine payed for the meal while Alex waited for her outside and few minutes later she joined him." how was the meal?" she asked

"good, better than I thought" he said and she smiled.

"let's take a little walk, there is a garden there and they sell nice coffee around there too"

"coffee?" he asked

"hmmm, don't worry all bills on me" she said and they both laughed

"well, what can I say" he said and they walked to the garden quietly. They got to the garden and Alex sat on the long wooden bench while Josephine when to get the coffee. Shortly, she was back with two cup of coffee and she handed one to Alex and she sat beside him on the bench. Alex stared at the plastic cup, filled with coffee in his hands and slowly, he brought it close to his mouth and sipped it. "It tastes good" he said

"of course it does" Josephine said and sipped her coffee.

"how do you feel now?" she asked

"better, thank you"

"won't you still tell me your name ? Mr rude girlfriend boyfriend" she said and he smiled

"hmmm"

"what is special about your name"

"everything"

"you sure have a lot of ego" she said and sipped her drink again

"are you always like this?" he asked and she raised her head to face him

"like how?" she asked and adjusted her posture on the bench

"always this lively and caring"

"have been through a lot and have just learnt to cheer myself up in every situation I find myself and that's what am doing now, I want to cheer up and you know, we've only met twice also, but you can talk to me, I will listen to everything you have to say" she said and he looked away from her.

"You know I want to go to my mum and rest my head on her lap and sleep off but I can't, she is probably mad at me"

"no matter how mad she is, she wouldn't push you away, she is a mother"

"you won't understand Josephine" he said and she felt butterflies in her stomach, did he just call my name, she thought, so he remembered, she muttured to herself

"do you stay alone?" she asked

"yes"

"what about that lady, the one you came to the restaurant with"

"she is the root of my problem that I can't get rid of"

"what about your cool friend"

"why do you keep calling him cool?" he asked and threw a curious look at her

"I don't know but I guess because he said I was beautiful, childish isn't it" she said and giggled

"no one would see you and call you ugly and if anyone does tell them Alexandra said you are an epitome of beauty"

"Alexandra, is that your name?" she asked and he nodded his head

"woah, finally, Alexandra" she said and bit her lower lips" thanks for the compliment" she said and he smiled.

"it's getting late, let's go back, I will drop you off, tell me where you live"

"you don't have to" she said and waved her hands

"it's late already, am to cool to allow a lady go home by herself this late, it's past 9"

"really, but you really like to praise yourself don't you?" she said and checked her wristwatch" my mom must be worried"

" sure, I do ,let's head back" he said and they walked back to the supermarket and he drove her home, minutes later, they got her house.

"wow, your place is close to the store"he said

"yes it is"

"your phone" he said and stretched out his hand to her

"what for?" she asked

"just give it to me then you will know what I want to use it for, give it to me unlocked" he said and she gave him the phone unlocked curious to know what he wanted it for.

"Thank you" he said and dialed his number on her phone then called his line and when it rang, he handed the phone back to her. "That's my number, make sure you save it, you know my name now and when I get home I will text you"

"okay thank you for the lift" she said and was about to get down from the car when he called her "Josephine" God! how she likes the sound of her name on his lips. She turned to face him and he said," thanks for everything, it was refreshing and comforting"

"am glad it was,bye drive carefully" she said and got down from the car. Alex watched as she walked into the building and drove off.
