Chapter 35

After talking to the doctor he found out Grazia was taken in for operation. She made a full recovery and was asking for him.

Quietly he slipped into Grazia's room went over to her bedside just as she opened her eyes.

"Luca, how are Robin and the babies?"

Sitting down by her side he couldn't help but smile.

"Robin is exhausted, Lila and Zyrus, both weighing four pounds and eleven ounces. They are so tiny but are healthy."

Grazia let out a sigh of relief.

"I didn't know what Filippo and Eleonora were up to. I didn't even have an idea they were lovers. Luca, it's true I tried to set you up with her, asked her to seduce you. But I would never ask her to physically harm Robin."

Luca stroked her cheek.

"I know that now. You helped save her life and the lives of our children. I will forever be in your debt. Who knows, maybe someday you and Robin may become friends."

"I'd like that, but she may never forgive me with the ways I've been treating her."

"it's not in her true nature not to forgive. I really want to get back to her. I'll check up on you in a while."

Kissing her cheek he went to the private room Robin was in.

She was asleep, her hair was fanned out and he thought she looked like an angel,his angel.

He sat by her bedside, his fingers caressing her hand and she woke up.

" I didn't mean to wake you up."

"No, you didn't."

Her hand going to his face.

"I could smell your scent and I thought I was dreaming but now I'm happy you here. How is Grazia? Have you seen her?"

"Grazia is doing really good and asked about you and the babies. I think she's warming up to you. The police are on their way in to get her statement, I suspect they will be in here any moment from now to get our statements."

"I want to see my babies."

"Rest first," Luca said and stopped her from getting out of bed.

"I won't be able to rest until I see them."

Chewing on his bottom lip he looked at the sadness in her eyes and made a decision.

Picking her up he carried her to the nursery. The nurse let them in and pulled a chair over for Robin to sit down, scolding Luca for taking Robin from her bed when she was clearly exhausted.

They were able to touch the babies through the holes wearing gloves.

"I want to hold them in my arms," she said.

"You will soon my love, it's only for a couple of days," Luca said and picking her up, he took her back to bed when he saw she was struggling to keep her eyes open.

He laid her down on the bed and covered her with a blanket.

"Sleep my little bird."

Yawning she asked if he got the cuts on his back taken care of. Satisfied that he had she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Luca was lying on the bed with his arms around her when two policemen walked in. Getting up without waking her up he went to where they stood by the door.

"If you are here for my wife's statement it will have to wait. She's exhausted and as you can see she's asleep."

Luca showed his displeasure by opening the door and motioned for them to leave.

They looked at over at the woman asleep on the bed, looked at each other and nodded.

"It can wait, Mr Mariani. We got your cousin Grazia's statement and Eleonora Gallo. Mrs Gallo confessed to everything. She told us how she and Filippo Russo planned to murder you, your wife and children and all they did to harm her. Mrs Gallo will be going to jail for a very long time."

" Will I be arrested for his death?" Luca asked, worried that he might be taken away from Robin.

" No sir, it was clear you were a victim and it was an act of self defense. We'll both come back tomorrow to get both your statements. Congratulations on your babies, goodbye sir."

The officers both shook hands with Luca and left him alone to be with his wife.

True to their words they both came back the next day and Robin told them everything, how she found the book and what happened up to the time Luca arrived.

The police told them it was Eleonora who hired the hit-and-run man to run her over. Finishing up with their questions they left.

When Robin told him that her bodyguard, Chad never made a pass at her, though he was distant, he was always respectful. Then she made Luca promise to rehire the man.

Not as her bodyguard as she was sure she wouldn't need one anymore, but to keep him as a security. Making it known to him that if didn't fulfill the promise he wouldn't be sleeping in their bedroom with her for a very long time.

When Luca left to go home and shower and change. Robin decided to go and see her twins, first stopping at Grazia's room.

Going over she sat down by the bedside.

"Grazia what you did for me was brave, you saved us and I would be forever grateful."

"Luca was the one who saved you Robin, not me."

"You're wrong. If it weren't for you showing up and delaying their plan it may not have turned out the way it did. But I have 2 questions I have been wanting to ask you. Where did you get the gun and how did you find us?"

"It was my father's gun, I kept it when he died." A smirk crossed her face.

"You never know when one will come in handy. Years ago when I an accident I was in the hospital for brain injury I get these visions. It's hard to explain but I saw you tied up to a chair in the tower. Robin I want you to know that I'm sorry I treated you the way I did, I guess I was jealous of you."

"But why?"

"Because of your beauty and the way all the men were drawn to you, lusting after you. I've never had a man to look at me the way they do to you, especially Luca. You've made him happier than I have ever seen. I would like it if we could start over."

Robin smiled, she knew Grazia was being sincere.

"I'd like that too. There's a man out there for you, you just haven't found him yet. I'm on my way, would you like to come with me?"

Grazia's eyes glazed over.

"You sure you don't mind?"

"Of course not, after all you are going to be their Godmother," Robin said holding out her hands to help her get out of bed.

Once they got there Grazia teared up when she saw the babies through the glass.

"They are beautiful, "she said and hugged Robin.
