It turned out that Master Senx witnessed my abnormal performance in the first two test, he was one of the examiners and the examiner whom I spared with was intrigued by my fighting style, so he went and pleaded to Master Senx to recommend me under his name, as Master Senx is one of the renowned slayers in the academy. This is what I found out after coming to the academy the next day, The examiner himself greeted me personally in his office. He said Master Senx found my talent very fascinating and that it would have been a waste not to nurture it regardless of my zero magic affinity. I was not persuaded as to what stood out in my performance, I thought I was trying my best with all the experience I had accumulated from B-12. The examiner introduced himself as a graduate slayer working as a substitute teacher in Dragon Horn academy, his name was Marhk. He was rather young for a teacher, He looked around mid 20s. He said I would be joining Fighter class from tomorrow and that my allocation is being prepared in the school dorm. " You have been given a second chance, do your best, Lan Gwen Ethren!,"
I then caught up with Nyaka, she was drafted in Hunter class and allocated in the privileged dorm managed by one of the grandmasters himself. It's the only dorm where they are trained and nurtured by grandmaster slayers. She also said, Jeral and Werem were also there and she met a bunch of other hunter class seniors. She said there were only twenty of them all together. " There are twenty Zen affinity rankers ?!! " I shouted.
And she also said we won't be able to meet each other much often as training for Hunter class is conducted in it's own conduct isolated from the rest of the slayers, oh yes, the average slayers.
" So they don't want to mix up average people like us ? " I said.
she smiled and shrugged. Sometimes, I swear, Nyaka is harsh. You see that shrug? She is making fun of me.
" I get all of these affinity things, can't be helped that some people are more blessed than others, talents and gifts. It's undeniable that they exist even if they are unfair but I cannot say it's unfair because even I wanted them, so I have no right to condemn others for being gifted with higher talents than me. " I was contemplating how I will proceed my future from now on, I was given a second chance and I won't let it end without producing a desirable result.
" It's true but this also makes the world interesting," She said.
"But don't get all too easy just because you are a celestial ranker, you never know who will comes up from behind if you are too much in your head "
" I know, even if I'm a celestial ranker, you are much stronger than me " she replied with a new found interest of rivalry in her voice, like declaring she will catch up. A Zen ranker catching up to me? what is she saying? it would be a slide for her but I was glad that Nyaka looked up to me.
" It's because I'm your brother, you dumb rabbit. " I said. " Even though, we are not blood related, you'll always be my family "
she smiled and blushed. " You know, I was afraid that you would leave me if Werem were to turn out be my real brother, I want to learn about my bloodline but I'm also afraid that you'll leave me behind "
I sighed heavily dumbfounded. " You are even dumber than I thought! You think I will leave you behind just because of that??"
I patted her head and said " Don't worry, I'll be always there for you because right now, you are too dumb to be left alone ".
she laughed and I smiled, slightly cheered up at our new found future. We said goodbye to each other and went our own way towards our new home, the dorm and the privileged dorm.
Nyaka was headed for her room when Jeral interrupted her out of nowhere, " Hey, Nyaka, that your name? '' Jeral sprung beside her from behind.
"Yes," Nyaka replied.
" I'm Jeral, the Zen-"
" I know," Nyaka smiled and continued walking towards her room and Jeral followed.
" So tell me, how did your friend, the one without magic, even got selected? " Jeral asked.
" He got recommended, " she said proudly.
" By whom??," his voice sprung in volume.
" He hasn't told me but it was a Master I believe,"
" What? What's so special about him? What's the use of recommending when he won't be able to wield any slayer weapons," He said boldly.
" Young master Jeral, have you ever heard about B-12?," she said.
" Yes, it's a dumpster ground on the southern edge of our kingdom. From what my father told me, It's a place for refugees and deserters," he replied.
" True, it's a place where life is unwelcoming and monsters roam around the edge. So it's truly an unfriendly place to live," She said.
" So? What's your point ?," He seemed confused.
"You shouldn't underestimate him just because he doesn't have any magic, I have seen what he is capable of, if you look down on him. He will someday run past you " Nyaka was just stating facts and Jeral seemed unconvinced and annoyed that she thought so highly of him.
" but he didn't even get a blow on the instructor, however I did,"
She smiled and said "For now, all you need to do is just watch, watch if you are curious about him, "
Jeral was still skeptical, 'what's so special about him?' he thought.
" We should get along, only three of us are the first years of hunter class, " Jeral pointed out.
" I intend to, " she smiled softly.
So this is the prologue of my admission into Dragon Horn academy, stripped of magical prowess I strived to become one of the legendary slayers. How I came to Phoenix kingdom to change my destiny. Will my tale become the tales of others or will I become a tale to tell? If you are here then you have to stick around to the end, a great tale demands patience and It's finally starting.
From this day on, Nyaka and I won't even see each other properly for the next six months apart from a few letters as she will be busy in her training and I will be too in my journey.
