Chapter 49: Resolution
Lavinia stared at the ceiling of their room, listening to Casey breathe. She’d slept a couple of hours after their very intense loving but that was all. She didn’t know what time it was, there were no windows in the room by design.
She didn’t care what time it was, really. It wouldn’t have mattered. Her brain was like a runaway train.
Her life, like a slideshow, passed before her. What little of it she could actually remember. She knew where she was and who she was, but not always what it was like or what it felt like to be that person.
She looked at Casey, curled near her. ‘Will there come a time when I forget what it’s like to love you? Which of us will become a memory?’
That was a dangerous line of thinking.
Lavinia shook herself mentally, hoping to come back to the present as she picked her phone up off the ground, having to fish it out of a pocket on her dress.
