Chapter 32: A Thing of the Past

It’s mid-morning when I step out into the sun. I feel like I’m masquerading as a normal person. I’m wrapped in an oversized fleece that falls over my hips. A bulky hat is pulled over my ears. Still, the weather is cold and I walk away from the apartment at a brisk pace, trying to warm up.

At least, that’s what I tell myself. There’s a part of me that doesn’t want to get caught on my mission. Because if Amun saw me now, he’d blow a fuse.

My arms are bare of all of my archaic bands besides the blackened bracelet. That one won’t seem to let go. But I’m okay with that. It’s nice to have a little power and the black metal band is incomparable to the priceless artifact that was stolen from the museum just over a month ago.

I have to follow the signs my ancestors tell me to follow. This search for power might have been Amun’s for centuries but now it is mine. It’s been my birthright all along. The danger is mine as well.
