Chapter 24 : Talk [ 2 ]

I had anticipated that she would ask me this question, however I am contemplating whether I should involve myself into this.

These are the only moments when I have a chance to talk with the main characters inside the story. letting out a sigh, I relented.

"Alright, I'll answer your question."

Eleanor's eyes held a glimmer of interest, while Lena's expression remained indifferent, though I noticed a subtle shift in her demeanor as she perked up her ears to listen to my story. It seemed that, despite her outward appearance, she was curious to know more about the person I am referring to.

My mind went back to a time when I was just a child, living a life that seemed so distant now. With a deep breath, I began to share my story, letting the memories wash over me before I spoke.

...

On that dark and gloomy night, a baby's cries could be heard outside the doors of the orphanage. The door opened, and a young volunteer found the child wrapped in a blanket, left on the doorstep. It was Wu Jinyang, a child with jet black hair and mesmerizing scarlet red eyes.

The young volunteer was immediately drawn to the child's unique appearance and decided to adopt him as her son.

As Wu Jinyang grew up in the orphanage, he made many friends and proved to be a bright and curious child. His jet black hair and scarlet red eyes were a striking contrast, and often drew curious glances from those around him.

His appearance was so unique that even the woman who had adopted him, Wu Shilin, found herself questioning his origins.

The mesmerizing scarlet red eyes were a trait reserved only for the major families within the city of Beijing, and yet there was no one to claim him as their own.

Despite his love for play, Wu Jinyang had a natural talent for mathematics, puzzle-solving, critical thinking, and other skills that set him apart from the other children in the orphanage.

It was as if he was born with an innate intelligence that surpassed his age, and the other children often looked up to him as a leader and mentor.

Time went by a blur, as he began attending elementary school at the age of eight, Wu Jinyang and Li Meili first met inside the library.

She was a delicate and beautiful girl with short silver-white hair and silver eyes. Her petite body made her appear younger than she actually was, but there was a maturity to her that Wu Jinyang found captivating.

Meili was a bright and cheerful young girl with a title of young prodigy, but her arrogance often got the better of her. as the two ended up having a big fight over a book they both wanted to read.

In the modern world, it is often said that men should give way to women, but Wu Jinyang was not one to follow such conventions. He refused to back down to Meili's demands and the two honor students' quarrel caught the attention of several teachers.

The two eventually decided to share the book. They initially hated each other and often found ways to provoke each other. However, as time went by, they began to understand each other and slowly became friends.

As two of the most unique and intelligent students in the school, they often drew attention from their peers. Many younger students tried to approach them, making it difficult for them to enjoy a normal school life.

Despite their initial dislike for each other, the coincidence that brought them together eventually led to them spending more time together.

They went out to the mall, played together, and had fun. By the time they were in their first year of high school at the age of 13, it was widely accepted in the school that they were in a romantic relationship. Meili was happy about it and did not deny it at all.

Wu Jinyang and Li Meili were similar in personality and intelligence, and their relationship continued to grow closer with time.

...

Eleanor asked the inevitable question, "So what happened in the end?"

I gave a bittersweet smile, shaking my head. Eleanor and Lena understood my reaction and silently lowered their gaze.

"I'm sorry if I was insensitive in asking," Eleanor quickly apologized.

"I-I.." Lena's body shook as she muttered, "Sorry about before."

Their apologies caught me off guard. Although I had only shared bits and pieces of my story, they seemed to understand just how much I had gone through with Meili. The thought of losing someone you love must've been painful.

I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, trying to calm my racing thoughts. I knew I couldn't let myself get too depressed about the matter again, so I let out a sigh and tried to push the memories to the back of my mind.

"By the way, are you here to study about Fundamentals of Magic and Mana?" Eleanor inquired

I took a moment to compose myself before responding to Eleanor's question. "Yes, I'm here to study Fundamentals of Magic and Mana. I'm actually waiting for a friend who's going to teach me about it," I replied.

"Why not study together? I can introduce you to Aya, Leo, and Mary," Eleanor suggested and then showed a smirk before she continued. "And Lena here has a big crush on you."

Lena coldly glared at Eleanor and retorted, "Since when did I say that I like him?!"

Eleanor puffed and respond, "Well that's because you, young lady, is having first time showing interest in a male and in a same age at that."

"Haa?"

Observing the playful banter between Eleanor and Lena, I shook my head inwardly, knowing that the two had a strong relationship in the novel before they fell in love with Leo.

But then, a thought occurred to me: what if Eleanor's teasing about Lena having a crush on me was true? The thought of me being chased down by a yandere Lena sent shivers down my spine. as I prayed that Lena hadn't developed an unhealthy obsession with me. The mere idea of it was too terrifying to contemplate.

Taking a deep breath further, I tried to push the thought out of my mind. Reminding myself that it was just Eleanor's teasing, and I had no reason to believe that Lena had any romantic interest in me.

Suddenly, Mica walked in and saw the group of three. However, her eyes didn't look pretty at all. If looks could kill, she would have killed the two women in front of her a thousand times over.

Her gaze shifted to me, and her lifeless eyes stared directly into mine. Cold sweat started to bead down my forehead.

'Fuck! don't tell me I've already caught the attention of a yandere who isn't even a main or side character. I DIDN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING YET'

In [ The Heroes Legacy ] many of the female main or side characters were said to be yandere. They were usually the obsessive type, willing to kill anyone who got in the way of their own selfish desires. Their level of obsessiveness was said to be on par with a certain pink-haired girl from an anime I watched during my teenage years.

I couldn't help but feel a sense of dread as I thought about the possibility of encountering more yandere characters in this world. The idea of being chased by someone with such an intense level of obsession was not a pleasant thought.

Leo's situation with the harem of girls he attracted inside the novel was certainly a precarious one. It was hard to imagine how he managed to navigate the complicated romantic entanglements he found himself in.

But for me, romance was the furthest thing from my mind. My only goal was to meet Meili again, and everything else was just a distraction. I had no interest in getting involved in any kind of romantic entanglements, especially not with yandere characters who might end up causing me more trouble than anything else.

I took a deep breath and reminded myself of what was important. Finding Meili was my top priority, and I couldn't afford to be sidetracked by anything else.

As Mica approached, Eleanor and Lena turned to face her at the sound of her soft voice. They were surprised to see her wearing a gentle smile, a stark contrast to her earlier lifeless gaze.

"Lo, are they your friends?" Mica asked politely while showing a 'gentle' smile, gesturing towards Eleanor and Lena.

Lo smiled back while cursed inwardly, 'Fuck.'
