The Throne of Sins and Virtues

A young man on his last day of high school saw his world be torn apart and felt the ground dissolve underneath his feet. In his despair, demons extended their hands and whispered sweet words, while angels tried to get their own contracts signed and whispered words of relief and salvation. He, instead of being consumed or contracted, chose to tame Lust.

We're all just one bad day away from Immorality.

Nauseating hot weather rained down from above. Together with the flames on the toppled cars and his own head wound making things blurry, it composed the end of the worst day of his life.

Leonardo felt like it was a glimpse of what's like to stare into hell's gates.

He glanced at the dead body in front of him in a daze while sitting on the burning asphalt with his back to a car that was left behind in a hurry.

"Haha, patetic...to the very end." His eyelids grew heavy and the gun slid off his palm. "Well, at least it's the end." His eyes were about to close when a single step reached his ear and a chill crawled up his spine.

Strenuously, he gazed up.

"...A geisha? I didn't imagine the devil would be into crossdressing." Leonardo mumbled.

The geisha was just too beautiful and well dressed to be real. The fact the infernal weather was unable to warm a single centimeter of her body proved it to be true.

Her calm and composed eyes stared down at him as she spoke.

[You are so naive… Because you planned, wrote down a few steps on a piece of paper, you thought you had everything sorted? That nothing could go wrong?…Do you want me to show you, what you have neglected?]

....

..

Friday, morning.

"Your self developed mana method is about to be implemented into the magic theory subject in all official teaching material. You finally have enough money to bring your sister and mother out of that man's control, and, you're also about to be engaged to your childhood friend! Since today is filled with so much good stuff, I called instead of texting!"

The teasing feminine voice sounded from the cellphone.

Leonardo, who just got up from the bed, smiled.

Getting no answer from the phone the woman lightly sighed.

-"Is it too early for this? Do you want to use text instead?"

"Nno! I-I'am just e-excited for talking to a beautiful woman on the phone."

Leonardo stuttered through the sentence. By the end of it, he was red as a tomato.

"Oh my! Leonardo did you just tried to flirt!? So cute! This is the proudest day for this big sister of yours! Oh, I'm so happy! I have to tell the others, and hey, I'm going there today too, how can I miss my little neighbor's graduating ball? Haha, See you at nine!" The call was cut off.

Leonardo allowed himself to smile.

[I was there with you, and saw all your little thoughts,] The geisha's voice suddenly appeared.

[ Did you really think that improving your social skills to the basic level of speaking instead of texting is a precursor to success? She doesn't even treat you as a man! You're her pet! How can you think you two were getting closer!?] The geisha spoke Leonard's thought of that time.

Before he could retort, another memory of early today passed by his mind, it was also the first let down of the day.

Friday, late morning.

The silva family was eating breakfast.

"So Leo, you're finally about to do something useful? Good! I can only endure so much embarrassment. Now I can at least justify the reason the son I raised rarely leaves his room. When I say you're a magic theory researcher nobody will say anything."

The tall man with a charismatic face and well-combed hair snickered. He was Silvio, Helen's husband and stepdad to Leonard and Hailey.

In that second, Helen let go of her fork and simply looked at Silvio, who didn't bother to notice her and smiled.

"You didn't raise me, nor my sister. And soon I'll make sure you'll need to find another family to pose in photos with."

Trembling with adrenaline, Leonardo spoke. But his eyesight were fixed in the plate of food in front of him.

The table was stunned into silence.

"Hahahah! Did you hear that Helen!? Your son finally decided to speak, though the first thing he says is ungrateful words, it's still progress, haha!"

He patted Helen's shoulder while laughing out loud, then got up and walked out.

He stopped at the door and Looking at her meaningfully, he spoke.

"As for the need to find another family… I love you guys so much... And I don't think your mother will bear to part from me. Till later, family! Haha!" The door closed behind him leaving an eerie silence on the table.

Helen and Hailey looked at Leonardo with the same surprise from before, this was the first time he ever spoke directly against Silvio.

But as if afraid to look at them he kept his eyes at the food.

"Mom, Hailey, I invested some of the earnings I received form my designs, It paid off, I can buy a house like this one, and with the researcher job on the Magic university, I can sustain us three with ease."

Hailey looked on with wide eyes. As for Helen, she too was astounded and happy with the news, hope ignited on her. But as the seconds passed by Leonardo still didn't look at them. The more excited or worked up, the more he avoids eye contact. The doctors already said he was not a case of mild autism, but they also did not found what triggered this reaction.

She then looked at how skinny he was. She then realized he didn't know the world beyond his bedroom, school, and house. But still, she wanted to believe him.

As her lips parted to say yes, Silvio's last meaningful glance and eerie laughter passed by her mind. In that second all his past threats when she tried to leave flashed by her mind.

"...Son, I'm happy for you, I truly am. thought I can't leave, make sure to spread your wings, and bring your sister along."

The corner of her mouth was trembling. Hailey still kept her silence.

"....Why?" He asked, but only the hellish hot answered him as the geisha reappeared and sneeringly glanced at him "Have you understood what you've been neglecting yet?" She asked.

Leonardo looked at her with nothing but silent rage.

[It isn't enough? Fine, again!]

Friday, at noon in the Highschool's professor lounge.

Leonardo trembled with his hands clenched, his long-sleeved hood shook with him as he gazed at the ground and asked in disbelief.

"W-what did you said?"

The man in his forties took an annoying drag at his cigar before sighing and speaking again.

"Things changed boy, the higher-ups from the magic academy changed their politics. ideas like yours are now officially considered nonsense that'll only make the relationship with the other world bad. Three other professors with similar theories were cursed at and fired. I won't have that on my resume so, boy, to enter a college course of magic theory, you'll have to awaken an authority like everybody else."

Leonard gritted his teeth.

"Even if that's the case I should still have a full scholarship to other special courses that doesn't require an authority, right?"

The professor took a long drag and slowly exhaled. "Those are filled."

"...I only ever got straight A+'s.." Leonard said in a low tone.

The professor finally looked at him. "Being good will only get you halfway in this world."

The professor then disappeared, replaced by the geisha who finally saw a glint of understanding amidst his rage.

[Now, it seems I don't need to tell you why the girl you were supposed to propose an engagement decided to go to the graduation ball with another man.]

Leonard still didn't speak but the geisha finished it all with an eerie grin

[Exactly, what you neglected your whole life is: The law of the jungle!]

Cold rage made his almost dead veins pump with blood. The geisha didn't stop.

[First! Because your father is a politician and a psychopath, your mother decided not to risk it, since her son only has some money and maybe a stable job. Second! You could not get into a special college course because the sons and daughters of judges, celebrities and the most powerful families squeezed you out with their nepotism. Third! Your childhood friend who's also your girlfriend of three years decided to follow her parents' advice and went to the ball with the boy who owns half of his father's chain of auto-center stores because it's better than a skinny boy who may have a decent future. All these results happened for one simple reason; YOU'RE TOO WEAK!"

"Shut the fuck up spirit!" Leonard roared. "Other spirits from the seven virtues and sins had already visited me today, they couldn't get a contract with me, and you think you can manipulate me into it!? Whore! Let me die in peace!"

The blood streamed out of his wounds, eyes, and mouth as he screamed. She leisurely sat in front of him in an oriental formal way. An umbrella from ancient times, extended into the ground and covered them both from the heat.

[Lesser spirits.] She said. [From the way you managed to kill a D rank rogue authority holder as nothing more than a skinny brat, it's no wonder they infested your mind. But this feat was half due to luck, if there wasn't a dead cop right there you'd be the one kissing asphalt.]

Feeling the blood loss, Leonardo lost focus and looked at the sky.

"Get… lost."

A smile appeared on geisha

[Because you neglected the law of the jungle you didn't train, so your body is weak, the ambulance won't come unless it's confirmed the rogue died. You'll bleed to death here, as a nobody...But if you sign a contract as my summon, human, I'II promise to help you achieve everything you couldn't, as long as you submit completely to me.]

His mind wandered, picturing what a future with him achieving everything he wished for becoming true, a spirit couldn't put things they're unable to achieve on a contract, so this was definitely possible.

Hands white as snow gracefully cleaned a smudge of blood on his cheek, and a sweet voice sounded. [you only need to nod sincerely, and it'll happen.]

Slowly, strenuously, he lifted his chin with hazy eyes that were still picturing that possible future.

The geisha was smiling victoriously.

Then a cellphone rung, the vibration made it slid down Leonardo's pocket. And coincidently fell on his finger, connecting the call.

"Leonardo! Are you there!? Are you okay!? Why aren't you answering!?? It's your mom! No! Hailey let me talk! Okokasdoaskjdfhnsd... Brother?"

Hailey's voice reached his ear, the haziness in his eyes cleared. She continued.

"A rogue Authority holder went into a frenzy..., we saw the footages, your car is in the middle of the incident but the police made a blockade, we can't get through. Is the madmen… still there?" She tried to sound calm and callous, but her voice was trembling.

'Not bad for a sixteen-year-old' Leonardo smiled.

"...D-Dead, Shot him. Twice.. on the head.."

The sound of orders and hushed steps came to from the other side.

"And you? A-Are you okay? Leo?"

He took a gulp of air.

"B-bleeding out. Mind.. hazy."

Yells hurrying the rescue teams barely registered on his mind as the geisha tsked after seeing his eyes go white. She got up with a sigh."Wasted my time.."

"...You can't.... die" A tone of voice dripping with care kept Leonard there for a few more seconds. The tone slowly turned from care to rage, by the end it was dripping with venomous hate "You have to save mom and me, you have to get back at those jerks from school, you've to show cassie what she lost today be dumbing you, You can't die!"

Hailey yelled some more, but the cellphone's battery died out.

White eyes gained focus again, and they were dripping with silent savagery.

"Spirit, I accept that deal." Calm and cold, he agreed a grin filled with mad intentions was etched on his face. But the geisha wasn't afraid.

[Oh? Good.] She came back and reached with her palm to his forehead, a malicious glint flashed by Leonardo's eyes, with a savage smile he plunged his hand unto the geisha's chest. It started to emanate mana from the wound, she was stunned.

"I… have a lot of things to do... I can't be, some spirit's slave!"

[W-what the hell did you do!? You'll break both our spirit!]

He flashed her an eerie grin.

"Law...of the jungle"
