With two knives acquired in the first extermination mission I advanced towards my next target.
I would prefer a spear, but who am I to deny a little diversity.
Approaching a complex of huts in the middle of the forest, I hid my presence and entered the first one.
Inside the hut, two men were sleeping heavily, snoring loudly.
Without making any noise, I approached the first one and, covering his mouth with my hand, I easily slit his throat.
The mess made by this movement made me rethink doing the same with others.
Instead of hitting him in the throat, I opted to put the knife directly into his heart, the blade was large enough to cause devastating damage and the bleeding would mostly remain inside the body.
I repeated this a dozen times until the camp was without a soul.
Combining the loot from this and the previous mission I managed to collect just over 113 thousand ryou. Impressive for the state of this group of bandits.
My last mission took three days to locate the group I needed to exterminate. Which already differentiated them from the previous two.
At the entrance to his hideout I noticed a good amount of traps and even some Fuinjutsu seals.
Unlike common bandits, these had Shinobi among them or at least contact with Shinobi to acquire such means.
The old man should have known that this mission was different from the others.
He had put them in order and this was the last to be completed.
Preparing the knives to spring into action at any moment, I crawled towards the entrance to the hideout, a wall at the bottom of a small cliff that could be climbed with a little effort.
When I passed the traps without firing them a smile appeared on my face, it was like child's play.
With all the activity of the last few days my Chakra reserves were increasing considerably and approaching 3500 points. Unlike spiritual energy that grows with meditation, Chakra encompasses physical, spiritual and mental factors. Without mentality, the Chakra stops growing, even when training the physical and spiritual aspects.
It was still too early to celebrate, I was too far away from my contemporaries.
Naruto being who he was didn't count.
Even Sakura and all her uselessness had more Chakra than me at the moment.
Arriving at the Alert Seal that covered the stone door, I used my Chakra to disable one of the inscriptions without alerting the bandits.
Activating the door mechanism the stone block moved enough for a person to pass into a narrow corridor.
Slowly moving forward I began to hear voices, but I was sure almost immediately that these voices were not those of bandits. Just in front of me a team of five Sand Shinobi were sitting talking as if passing time.
"Clearing the path before the mission is one of the most thankless tasks possible. I earned a good amount of money from these guys, now I had to kill them." – grumbled one of the Shinobi.
"Don't complain, at least we keep all the money they accumulated robbing merchants crossing the border." – shot another.
"Money is always good, but I don't understand why we need to do this." – complained a third.
"The teams that are going to participate in the Chunin Exams need a safe way to Konohagakure, you know 'they' are going to participate." – explained the apparent Leader.
Curious to hear more, I waited for the conversation to evolve.
Apparently some important figures were going to participate in the Chunin Exams and they needed to make sure nothing went wrong.
Nothing very productive came out from then on.
I backed away carefully until I came out of hiding, I really wanted those bandits' money, but taking out those Sand Shinobi could lead to yet another scenario that I didn't want to deal with.
The old man was becoming softer every day and I didn't want to have to become a fugitive because of his lack of balls.
Returning to the village, I handed in my report on the three missions and waited for the old man to analyze them.
"I appreciate your efforts, I know who those mentioned in the conversation you heard are. I would like to say that you passed my test, but with one less extermination I cannot do that." – the old man began to say.
I contained my reaction.
This old man really likes to do things his way.
"You still have a deadline of four days, if a mission comes up during that time that suits you, I will summon you. Really a shame." – he declared rambling at the end.
The anger inside me awakened.
This shouldn't happen, I am one of the greatest Immortals in the Supreme Realm. But here I was with a mere mortal treating me like a child, this is difficult to accept, especially since it's been such a short time since I woke up.
Over time I would get used to it, but Hiruzen has a special way of irritating me apparently.
Greeting him without saying anything I made my way out of his office.
I needed to burn off some energy, it was time to eat Ramen again.
With my arms behind my head I slowly made my way to Ichiraku. I really wish I was lucky enough to find her alone working so I wouldn't have to be so careful.
As I approached my destination I saw the orange pants that I didn't want to find.
He probably already felt my presence since I wasn't trying to hide it, leaving now would only give him another excuse to bother me.
Entering I saw Teuchi cooking Ramen at a fast pace, Naruto was a bottomless pit when it came to food.
"Hi, one miso when you have time." – I greeted by placing my order.
As soon as my voice sounded, Ayame appeared from the red inner area like a pepper.
"A miso coming." – she said trying to sound professional.
Seeing her I couldn't help but wink with a half smile, provoking her to run to make my Ramen.
"Hoy Kai, guess who has a bridge with his name!" – Naruto shouted, catching my attention.
