“Next, please,” Vale said. Her face lightened, then went impassive, as she recognized Ivy. “Oh, hi. What can I get you?”
“I need a cake for my mother’s wedding. It’s—”
“That’s an order that needs to be processed online. We need at least a week for something like that. A wedding cake needs so much—”
“My mom’s getting married, but there are maybe six people attending? Seven?” Ivy bit her lip, realizing that the final number she gave was if Vale was included. If Hazel got to bring Christopher, then she wanted Vale by her side. If only for a day. “We’re not having that many people.”
“But still,” Vale said, shifting from one foot to the other. “Your mom probably wants some kind of writing or design, yeah?”
“I think my mom would be happy with most things I could bring to her, as long as it’s from this place.”
“And you?” Vale asked. “You didn’t seem so thrilled yesterday.”
