Elena has known she was a fairy since she was thirteen thanks to her adopted dad who left Lenfairia, a parallel earth filled with magic to the earth she knows now, to protect her from the witches who killed her parents and now she’s almost seventeen and her powers have grown stronger. After catching her boyfriend kissing her best friend she gets chased by vampires who want a taste of her power. Luckily, her best friend Alexander Walker, who is her adopted dad’s biological son saves her from the vampires and has come to earth with instructions from the King, her uncle to come back home. Elena agrees. Elena goes to Eurox, a magical Europe, and she’s in awe of the magic that surrounds this world. She meets her family, who throw a welcome-back ball for her. She then goes to Hollow Prep Academy, a school for fairies and elves to coexist and learn how to use their skills to fight off the creatures of darkness. Elena meets many friends and foes, and she’s already involved in school activities. She thinks she’s safe in her school until monsters start attacking her. She learns that someone is summoning those monsters to kill her but she’s not alone because her friends do their best to stop those monsters from hurting her and anyone else. They also try to find out who is sending those monsters Elena's way. Could it be the witches who killed her parents or a new threat?
Alex and Pierre are taken to the school nurse and Elena is following Headmistress Cassandra to her office because she's the only one who didn't have any minor damage caused by the vampires. Unless, there's a fashion clinic in school that can help her to look her best self, but there isn't, so she follows the headmistress.
Alex put up a fight not wanting to go to the nurses' office but the Headmistress threatened to reduce his points if he didn't go and that shut him up real quick. Elena wonders why Alex thinks she's scary, if anything she's badass. She likes her.
She's tall, has shiny long red hair, dresses like a boss and yes she's intimidating but she has to be so people take her seriously. She's running a school filled with teenagers after all.
She follows her quietly to her office, and Elena is hella shaken up by those vampires but she isn't because she feels protected by the headmistress. She can only think about the quick way she set those vampires on fire with ease. That's badass if you ask her.
They finally get into her office but first, they walk past the gnome who gave Elena her schedule, and textbooks before getting into the office. Elena says hi to Ms Bertha and Ms Bertha acknowledges the greeting by giving her a nod.
The office looks more like an office suitable for a headmistress Elena doesn't know what she was expecting. There's a desk and on top of the mahogany desk are documents, a cup full of pens and a picture of her and her husband or boyfriend. Elena doesn't know but they do look all lovey-dovey, Elena hopes that's not her brother she's kissing on the cheek like that.
There's a shelf full of books, and a picture on the wall of her and her uncle Conrad. She misses him already.
"Please sit princess." She says gesturing for her to sit down and so she does but slowly. She doesn't know if she's in trouble or…
"Bertha!" she calls for Ms Bertha who comes running into the office.
"Ma'am," she says, she still holds that expressionless look on her face.
"Tell that idiot Garfield that he is fired. I don't know why he keeps leaving the barrier open but he is fired and I am done giving him excuses, he's gone! Out of my school!" Elena jumps when she shouts viciously, her eyes flash a bright red briefly. Now she knows what Alex is talking about.
"Yes, Ma'am." Ms Bertha says walking away.
Headmistress Cassandra flips her red collapses on her chair and lets out a loud sigh, she shakes her head then her gaze is fixed on Elena.
"This is what happens when you give people second chances, they're always going to disappoint you." She says to her and Elena stares at her, but she can only nod her head.
"Ah, Princess Elena. Welcome to our school. I promise things like this don't always happen. And I would like to apologize to you for what just happened. I'm sure you were traumatized."
"Thank you miss. I'm fine though," she says, she's more worried about her friends than she is for herself.
"You're sure you're fine?" Headmistress asks making sure and Elena nods. "Okay, okay, good. Now if you'd please not mention this to your uncle if that's okay with you." at that moment she looks scared, scared of her nice uncle and what he would do to her if he found out that they allowed his niece to be attacked by vampires in a school that's supposed to be safe for students, safe for her.
"Don't worry, I won't tell him," Elena says with a convincing smile. Elena doesn't want to tell her uncle or anyone about what happened for that matter because it's embarrassing. A powerful fairy like her didn't defend herself from vampires. But these are not just ordinary vampires. They're the oldest according to them.
"Really?" the Headmistress says with a smile on her face. "Thank you, we promise you, that is not going to be happening to you anymore. You have my word."
Elena can only smile. She hopes so because she doesn't want to experience that ever again. She genuinely thought that was the end. Her heart is still racing.
"So how are you loving Hollow Prep so far?" She asks her, changing the subject and hopefully Elena will feel at ease talking about how nice her experience has been and how she likes the school which is what she tells her.
"I also want to run for head girl."
"Oh, that's great that's great, participating in these things is very important, especially in a school like this and especially if you want to get into a great college. Or rule-" she stops talking and she clears her throat. Elena thinks she knows what she is going to say but tries not to think of it, she's not going to think about it.
"I have a question," she says and the headmistress gives her the go-ahead. "Are ancient vampires more powerful than regular vampires?"
"Oh, yes very. Elves used to have a hard time slaying them but we fire fairies didn't. Fire and the sun are their only weaknesses. No weapon can kill them." she says but then she does some thinking. "But I thought all the ancient vampires were destroyed by Miguel Santos?" she asks herself.
"Who- Who's that?"
"He was a fire fairy who went on a quest to kill all ancient vampires because they were just too troublesome even worse than the witches. It was assumed that he and his team killed them all but looks like that's not the case because they attacked you and your friends just now," she says which makes Elena think, she has a lot to learn about the creatures of this world and not about the fairies, the fairy animals and elves but the creatures of darkness.
She has a lot to learn and it feels tiring, she feels tired even when she hasn't started yet.
"Alright princess do you have any more questions I don't want you to miss classes."
"Oh, no." Elena picks up her backpack and rises to her feet. "Thank you."
"You're welcome and do not get into trouble, I'd hate to reduce your points or to give you detentions."
"You do not have to worry about me Ma'am," she says with a smile sounding so sure about herself.
"That's what I want to hear." Headmistress Cassandra says. Elena nods her head and she walks out of the office. She can hear arguments and it's between Ms Bertha and a man dressed in black, he's dressed like one of the guards. A white man with a pointy nose and ears.
"You have to tell her the barrier wasn't down. I am telling you."
"Then how did the vampires get in?" Ms Bertha asks.
"I DON'T KNOW!" he stops yelling when he sees Elena walking out of the office and how her eyes on him.
"Garfield, please get in here and stop making a scene." Headmistress Cassandra says. Garfield looks at Ms Bertha. He mutters something under his breath and he begrudgingly walks toward the headmistress and enters the office.
"Everything is all good here Elena, you can head to class now." She says smiling and walking into her office. Elena leaves the admin office and is in the hallway now. That man believes that the barrier was not down. He was so sure that it wasn't, maybe it wasn't and something else is at play here.
She stops thinking when she hears two people call her name. She looks up to see Hilda and Fran running toward her.
"Are you okay?" They both ask at the same time.
"Yes, I'm-" she looks around to see that all the students are watching her and are whispering among themselves and oh no. They all know she was attacked by vampires, Alex was right news does travel fast in this school. She just hopes that no one talks so much that the news reaches her uncle.
"I'm fine," she says but she's not because now she's looking at a bitchy Anastasia laughing that she almost got killed by a vampire.
That's it, she has to learn how to use her power to her advantage fast, she's not going to be the laughingstock of the school.
