Adrian (Present day)
My heart raced with a mixture of uncertainty and euphoria. I looked at the officer as he looked at the ground I was standing on. "So what now" I said tearing through the immense amount of tension between us. This was the question that plagued my mind. If not for the uncertainty of my future I would be wearing a grin wider than I ever had worn before.
The officer looked up at me, seemingly surprised by my sudden inquiry. "Well ya see that's not something I really um-a deal with." He said tripping constantly throughout his sentence. "That's for your social worker to figure out I uh...think." "I don't have one of those." I said flatly. "Well you see you'll get one...t-they all do." I Leaned against the door watching him begin to sweat just a little bit on his forehead.
"Ya see my uh job i-is to come here a-and inform you about the tragedy an-" I let up a smirk for a minute when he said the word 'tragedy'. That seemed to trip him up slightly but he kept going. "And um take you to the station to figure out custody and uh..living arrangements." He finished and looked at me. I kept looking back at him emotionlessly. He seemed to be searching in my eyes for something. Something that wasn't there, well at least not for the thing he expected it to be there for. Something like grief.
After a moment I shattered the silence. "Well you gonna do the rest of your job?" He popped out of his mind and started thinking about what I just said. "Oh! Yeah right umm" he fumbled around in his pockets and pulled out his keys. "Let's uh..let's go." He exclaimed with a brighter more relaxed expression plastered across his face. I nodded and stuck my hands In my pockets while keeping my arms close to my sides. He walked to a simple looking squad car with the words 'Philadelphia police department' proudly stamping its side. He opened the back door for me and sat down in the car as he swung the door closed. There was a cage in front me between the front seats and the back seats. I buckled my seat belt as he entered the car and turned around to me. "Heh...now uh d-don't worry now that cage doesn't mean you're in jail" he said with a playful smirk on his face and a chuckle fallowing his sentence. I internally rolled my eyes as the engine began rumble.
