I’m sorry Aeyong

A month later, Seong Myin couldn't go on anymore. Revenge hadn't brought Seong Myin what he wanted. It had only brought him more regret and pain. Within moments, his eyes were full of tears.

"Aeyong, I — I'm sorry. I've ended the lives of so many and I can't seem to stop." His whisper was barely audible.

"One more. Aeyong, one more time. And I promise I'll stop. I'll let it go." Seong Myin sniffled, wiped his tears and put on an emotionless face. His heart raged. The hunt had begun.

The target was a warehouse that trafficked human people for monetary gain. They were despicable humans in Seong Myin's eyes, and he felt that the world would be better off without them. It was easy to break in with the ring. Inside he could see dozens of human traffickers.

He was about to begin showering the room with his bullets, but stopped when he thought of Aeyong. "What have I become?" Seong Myin did not need the answer. Seong Myin looked at the ring on his finger. The ring had given him much, but he feared that the ring had changed him along the way.

"It's time – It's time to put an end to this." Seong Myin closed his eyes without any regrets. Seong Myin ripped off the ring from his finger. Hundreds of pairs of eyes turned towards him.

"Ah! Intruder. Kill him!" The surprised shouts of the human traffickers echoed around the warehouse. But before he could speak a word, they acted.

Pat, pat, pat…

Seong Myin didn't try to avoid the bullets. He looked down and clutched his stomach feeling pain and a liquid substance. Falling on his side, the light began to fade from his eyes. Seon Myin pondered with himself. Did he regret using the ring? He did not know the answer. But did he regret putting an end to this? Seon Myin knew he didn't regret it.

And with that decision, Seong Myin knew he had received what he truly wanted. Close to a whisper, Seong Myin murmured "If only I had it sooner." Shutting his eyes, Seong Myin repeated this thought as the raging storm of his heart quieted and eternal rest overcame his body.

"Huff."

In a corner of the warehouse, a hooded figure sighed.

With a single step, the dark clothed figure retrieved the ring that the Korean had thrown on the floor. The red ruby was smudged with ash and the golden embroidering was smeared with blood, but the ring was nonetheless intact.

He looked at the body of the Korean man, ruined with bullets.

"Seong Myin. Ah, you could have had so much more fun. It truly is a pity…"

The dark cloaked figure frowned for a moment, but he couldn't hide the welling satisfaction in him; His lips curled into a wretched smile. Taking one last look at the field of the dead and the chaos below, the hooded figure shifted his body into a dark mass and disappeared as quickly as had arrived.

This is my first novel and short story of this length. I hope you enjoyed it!
