Brother's Gift

"Don't stress about it. There's plenty of time for that. And it's not like I'm broke." Hendry reassured his sister as he slid the card back to her.

"Lia, Hendry's right. No need to fret about his marriage. He needs to find a girlfriend first!" Jack teased, laughing at Hendry.

Zara raised her eyebrows and looked at Jack with a questioning gaze. "You're telling me as if you have a girlfriend, Third Brother," she remarked.

Jack chuckled and shook his head. "Come on, Zara. If I did have a girlfriend, you'd be the first person I'd tell. I couldn't keep something like that from my dear sister. Here, take this. Consider it a little gift for when you go back home." With a smile, he handed Zara another bank card.

Zara made up her mind that she would take the money card from her family, as they wouldn't give up until she agreed. However, the real decision of whether to use the card or not rested with her. Nonchalantly, she placed the two cards on the coffee table and asked, "Satisfied?"

"Absolutely!" Both brothers gleefully exclaimed in unison. Kylie observed the heartwarming scene before her and felt immense joy, witnessing her children's happiness.

She couldn't help but feel the absence of her other two sons. As she thought about them, she glanced at Hendry and Jack and then inquired, "You guys are here, which is great. But where are the other two? Why aren't they here?"

Hendry and Jack exchanged glances and replied, "They haven't been informed yet that Lia is back." "What! You two didn't tell them?" Kylie exclaimed, taken aback.

"Yeah, Mom. Even if we let them know, it would still take them a while to come back since they're currently out of the country. That's why we decided to go back and see Lia before informing them," Jack explained to Kylie.

Kylie agreed with Jack's reasoning. It was surprising enough that here these two sons were in the country right now, considering how frequently they traveled abroad.

But her remaining two are even harder to spot. They are constantly on the move due to her job.

Throughout the entire night, Olivia didn't come downstairs. She made up an excuse about having an exam and stayed in her room, skipping dinner with the rest of the family.

Once they finished dinner, each family member retreated to their own room. Unbeknownst to anyone, Hendry secretly went to find Zara in her study room.

"Lia, can I come in?" "Come in, brother," Zara said as she lifted her eyes from her laptop. As she looked up, Hendry walked in with a smile and sat on the opposite seat of the table.

Hendry looked at Lia who was looking at her laptop. Sensing his gaze, Lia looked at Hendry and asked, "What is it, Second Brother?" "Lia, are you free tomorrow?"

Zara thought for a moment before saying, "I can be free. What is it?" Hearing this, Hendry had a smile from ear to ear and said, "Nothing, I just want to take you shopping. Let's go tomorrow."

Before Zara could decline this, Hendry hurriedly got up and said as he moved backward towards the door, "You already said you're free tomorrow. So get ready tomorrow and there's no option for you to say no. Good night, sleep early."

After saying this, without waiting for Zara's reply he closed the door and went out of the study. Zara felt a headache coming and shook her head helplessly.

....

The following day, after finishing her usual morning routine and getting dressed, Zara made her way downstairs and took a seat on the couch, crossing her legs. Shortly after, Hendry descended the stairs from his room.

As he made his way down, he noticed someone sitting on the couch, engrossed in their phone and typing away. Glancing at his wristwatch, he saw that it was just after 7 o'clock.

A smile appeared on his face as he walked towards her and he said, "Good morning, Lia." "Good morning, Brother." "You didn't have enough sleep, ah?" "Became a habit."

Hendry sat on the couch and said, "Lia, do want to go for some fun or some shopping?" Zara hearing this shifted her gaze from her phone to her second brother.

Zara was just about to say something, but Hendry cut her off, saying, "I already know what you're going to say. Don't bother. I'll be the one making the decision, and trust me, you'll have a great time."

With those words, Hendry pulled out his phone and started scrolling through it. Zara remained relaxed and carried on with her own tasks.

Kylie and Andrew strolled down the staircase, their hearts warmed by the sight of the siblings sitting together.

They exchanged smiles, and Kylie couldn't help but notice her son's excitement. She playfully inquired, "Hendry, you seem to be in high spirits today. What's the good news?"

Kylie eagerly asked her son, "Have you found a girlfriend yet?" Hendry's smile disappeared as soon as he heard the word girlfriend. He looked up and replied, "Mom, can we please not talk about girlfriends and all that stuff?"

Zara looked up at her parents and greeted them, "Good morning, Mom. Good morning, Dad." Kylie responded cheerfully, "Good morning, sweetheart."

"Good morning, baby." Andrew also added with a warm smile and both Andrew and Kylie walked to sit on the couch. "So, what is the happy occasion?" Andrew asked Hendry.

Zara slipped her phone into her pocket. She was dressed in loose cream trousers paired with a white crop top. Glancing at Hendry, Zara seemed to be anticipating his response.

Hendry beamed with joy as he exclaimed, "I'm gonna bring my sister out to play!" Kylie glanced at Hendry and inquired, "So, what's the agenda for today?" "It's a surprise," he replied with a mischievous grin.

Curiously, Kylie turned her gaze towards Zara, silently seeking answers. Zara, with a serene demeanor, extended her arms and calmly stated, "I have no idea where we're headed." "Why all the secrecy in taking her out?" Kylie questioned.

Hendry glanced at his mother, noticing her high hopes. This made him feel a bit guilty, as he hadn't prepared anything as she had anticipated.

Feeling disheartened, he expressed, "Mom, I didn't have any specific plans this time. I rushed here as soon as I found out Lia was here. My only intention is to take her to the mall and get her something nice."

Kylie could feel his sadness, so she didn't continue on that and said to him, "Don't you dare buy some silly things for her. And don't restrict her from buying what she wants."

"Mom, do I need you to say this? Of course, Lia can buy what she wants. But do you know what is the main problem?" Hendry asked looking at his mother. "What is it?"

Hendry let out a sigh and expressed, "Lia should be open to accepting the things I purchase." His sister never allowed any of his brothers to take her shopping and spoil her with gifts.

Whenever they got together, they would simply visit entertainment places or go on vacations to have a good time as a sibling time.

Kylie empathized with Hendry's sentiment and felt sorry for him. However, she acknowledged that her daughter's perspective is not entirely unfounded. It's important for Lia to have her own thoughts about these matters.
