Something has definitely changed.

Marianne feels the crown prince's mask slip off as they struggles to stay afloat, but he can't make out the prince's features in the murky water.

"I can't breathe," Marianne says, her voice strained and desperate. "I'm going to drown."

The crown prince moves closer to Marianne, grabbing her arms and holding her up in the water. He places her lips against Marianne's, and Marianne feels the crown prince suck the water out of her mouth. Then, the prince begin to exhale, filling Marianne's lungs with air. Marianne feels herself relax, her mind clearing as she is able to breathe again.

The crown prince and Marianne swims together, their lips still locked in an embrace. Marianne's heart is pounding in her chest, and she feels a mixture of fear and exhilaration.
