Chapter Fourty Six: The Change

It had been quite a long night of partying and feasting with the Serepnts, and both Ally and Lysette had never eaten so much in their entire lives. But today was a new day, and it was time for them to try leaving the Well.

" We will come and see you all again Soon, I give you my word" Lysette assured their new friends and Gandy lowered his head and allowed for both of the to climb aboard. Once they had settled upon his head, Gandy turned and traveled through the mazeway of tunnels, leading them to the way out.

" I really dont want to go home " Ally sighed.

" I know it is not where you are happy but you do have a sense of duty to your people. I dont think your parents are capable of leading our people to a greater future but I know within my heart, that you can do this Ally " Lysette's word made Ally feel a little better but she still hated the idea.

" I want to learn more about magic. I want to learn more about the ancients. I want to spend more time here so that I can be even better at helping the world. I think that people have had problems with leading because they didnt know everything. They didnt know how the world truly worked. When you work with limited information, you are destined to fail" Allys insight again, shocked Lysette who could not be more proud.

" I promise you that I agree. I was very much like you at your age. I wanted to know anything and everything that I could about the world. I thought that if I knew enough, That I would be able to do things that no one else was ever able to. And even now, I'm still in pursuit of that knowledge. My pursuit has never stopped. And I don't believe yours will either. But the difference is, The entire kingdom's future rest on your shoulders. You have an obligation to your people" Lysette informed Ally who shook her head.

" My people are destined to fail" Ally confessed.

" What do you mean? " Lysette inquired as she was not expecting a pessimistic thought.

" My people are doomed. They rely too heavily on traditions. If i was to lead us away from that, they would turn to chaos and not know how to handle themselves. Even a great leader, would not be able to control them. They reject anything new and anything that was would be of a benefit" Allys knowledge was beginning to concern Lysette slightly.

" But they could open their minds under the right circumstance" Lysette tried to deflect.

" Did they offer that to you? Or did they say you were cursed just as they did me? " Allys words burned through Lysette with a undenaible truth.

" They made mistakes. I will be the first one to admit that. But they are our people. And they have to make mistakes so they can learn. I am here and now, I am the most trusted person within the Kingdom " Lysette smiled. She had worked hard for that honor even though, her roles as of late were less and less the kind of work she truly was passionate about.

" You searched for knowledge but you fought because it was neccasary. You have kept fighting, because our people cant see the answers of how to avoid conflict. You fight their wars which hinders all the things you could be. You could have been a scholar " Ally smiled to Lysette who seemed almost hurt by that input.

" Yes. I could have been. But that is not how things turned out. And i am okay with that" Lysette smiled again, trying to shake the unpleasent feelings bubbling deep within her.

" No, you arent. But you keep going anyway. Its what you have to do. But if you walked away, if you just walked away and followed your dreams..maybe things would be different" Ally proposed.

" So its my fault? " Lysette turned to Ally, now being offended by the notion.

" I know that I gave up on my dreams to some degree but i'm not responsible for all that is happened" Lysette defended herself.

" I didnt say you were. I said things would be different. Our people wouldnt have a noble and strong warrior to fight their battles so they might be less likely to get in conflict" Ally explained which Lysette thought on for a moment.

" So im enabling them?"

" Yes, yes you are enabling them. But, all of that will change soon. I am going to make it better" Ally said in a very cold tone which concerned Lysette immensely.

" What do you mean, that you are going to make it better? What are you going to do? Banish me from the Kingdom" Lysette laughed, trying to lighten the mood.

" For a start, yes" Ally smiled happily which brought even more dread to Lysette.

" You cant ban me from the Kingdom...thats my home. Our people need me" Lysette pleaded.

" No, our people need to think for themselves" Ally began humming a strange song as Lysette stared on in complete disbelief.

" You cant be serious.." Lysette could not believe the sudden change in attitude.

" Is this because I wouldnt let you stay here? " Lysette tried to reason in her head why Ally would change so quickly.

" No. I think our kingdom and our people have suffered long enough. I do not wish to see them suffer any longer. This is the only way that I can insure that we all find peace. And if we dont, then life continues on" Ally continued humming.

" What have I done.." Lysette thought to herself. Could it be the well that has changed Ally? Was her development just so quick that she had not noticed it? Something was different and Lysette knew this could be trouble.
