Chapter Eight: The Lingering

Penny quickly rushed out of the bro and back into the main chamber where her father waited for her. " Did you get the answers that you seeked? " Shawn asked, almost seemed nervous about her answer.

" Why are they here? I need to know why they are here! " Penny demmanded answers that Shawn had hoped she would have pieced together.

" Through all of the resets and all of the time lines, there have been what I call ' The Lingering' " Shawn sighed. " This is both where either Gabriel or Kara didn't die when they were suppose too. And they had to be placed somewhere, and thus they were placed here" Shawn answered.

" The reset was supposed to erase all existence so that everything could restart but there were times where that fate could have been avoided, such as by being elsewhere besides the Underworld at the time for the reset" Shawn explained further.

" Most of these cells, have a Gabriel, a Kara, or a combination of the two. These versions, have been warped and demented by their own existence in one way or another. Usually because the toxicity of them both tended to leave them with severe mental illness. And since I could not bare to end them..because they were my friends..i.had to place them somewhere. As they were a danger to all that encounter them" Shawn looked at the countless cells and almost weeped from the pain he had felt for centuries.

" You should have ended them. Keeping them here..prolongs their suffering.." Penny looks to her father in disgust. " I know..but I am weak..and could never bring myself to do it. Not to a single one of them " Shawn turns back to Penny, as a single tear drips down his boney cheek.

" Usually they don't survive but when they do they end up here. And yes I know it's wrong to keep them here but I don't know what else to do. I refuse to kill them..but they also cannot simply remain.." Shawn looks down at the floor and tries to regain his composure.

" I will end them" Penny speaks up much go the surprise of Shawn.

" What? " Shawn questioned as though he had not heard her the first time properly.

" I will end them. If you cannot bring yourself to do it then I will do it for you. They cannot remain like this, They are suffering. Something has to be done about it and if you refused to then i'm going to have to do it for you" Penny looks around the room to see the scale of the task she was putting upon herself.

" I really don't think that is a good idea..it's not even why I brought you here. I brought you here so that you could see- " Before Shawn could finish, Penny walked past him and back into the cell from where she had encountered the Gabriel and Kara.

" I am sorry I have to do this" Penny said firmly as she raised her hands and both Kara and Gabriel's bodies became engulfed in a deep purple fire, that illuminated the room completely. It's only a few seconds before they were completely done away with and we're left as nothing but two piles of ashes.

Without speaking another word, Penny walked out of the room to be confronted by her father who seemed visably upset.

" WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? " Shawn shouted at Penny who seemed completely unnerved by her fathers tone.

" Because you refused too and someone has to do it" Penny repeated herself again to which Shawn snapped his fingers and teleported them back to their training ground.

" I don't understand why you are so upset.." Penny growled.

" You took lives without even thinking twice. You cannot fix the world by just taking whatever lives you feel is necessary" Shawn hissed.

" And you cannot save the world by not doing what is necessary either" Penny growled back.

" Training is done for the day " And with that, Shawn dissapeared and left Penny all alone on the training Ground. She knew her father was upset but she did the right thing regardless of what he believed.
