Ch. 17: Safe and Sound

Cressida and Chlevern had been walking for a while now looking for an exit from this place. Cressida knew that after the punishments were over, they were often summoned back to the place where they came from for a treatment.But it was Chlevern who was unaware of it, so he was helpless but never showed it on his face.

"Do you know where the exit can be?", asked Cressida looking around with her guard up to any dangers.

"Ahh... no, I don't know it actually I told you right that it was my first time here so I had no idea about anything.", said Chlevern embarrassed with a bitter smile.

"But I thought that you might have known about the exit from this place.", Chlevern raised the doubt.

"I had told you earlier right? That I had never lost a fight here in the Field of Battles, so I obviously don't know where or how to find an exit in this punishment chamber.", Cressida said sighing.

'Does he have a curse which wipes away his recent memories?How can he forget something I said just now?', thought Cressida helplessly.

They both were walking looking for an exit when a spear came towards their direction at a high speed.

Chlevern sensed danger and the system popped up.

[WARNING!

You are being attacked by a spear moving at a high speed

Dodge the attack as quickly as possible]

*SWOOSH~~~~*

The message disappeared.

But just before Chlevern could look away and dodge, the spear was broken into two pieces by Cressida.

She too had sensed the danger and her quick reflexes let her kick the spear and break it into two.

'Damn those reflexes! if I had gotten that kick of hers before, I don't think my arm or leg would be in one piece.', thought Chlevern, a little surprised and a little overwhelmed.

"Huh? were you just scared of me?", Cressida asked Chlevern.

"Well, I was not scared. Just a little surprised.", said Chlevern coming back to his senses.

Cressida had been working hard and training since childhood, so people often misunderstood that she had just had great physical strength and endurance. But, she had this innate talent since birth. She was able to sense emotions and intents of the ones in front of her.It was this ability of hers that let her sense Chlevern's intent and emotions from the start and also when he called her dumb. But after sensing his intents she was taken aback a little. Most of the ones she met, usually men had some sort of malicious intent after meeting her as she was a beauty. But in Chlevern's case she sensed no malicious intent, not even a bit so she was a little shocked. She was the fifth daughter and one of the prettiest among all her nine sisters, others being her eldest sister (the first daughter of her household), her middle sister (the third daughter), her first younger sister (the sixth daughter) and her one of the youngest sisters (the eighth daughter). Her eldest sister was a Genius Sorceress, her middle sister was a Cultivation master and her younger sisters were Inherent Magicians from their household, all being absolute beauties. Her household was not a very supreme one but it was powerful enough to be among other strong households as they raised strong heirs, like Cressida's mother, who was one of the strongest warriors of the Eternity and a beauty among supremes.

All her sisters had a unique innate talent, certainly stronger than her but only Cressida had the talent of Sensing Emotions and Intents. This was the reason why Cressida had to train and become stronger in order to not fall behind her sisters in strength as all had their innate talent to strengthen themselves.

"That spear would not have been that much of a threat if it did not come at us with that speed. So I think we have to be just more careful about the surroundings.", said Cressida looking at the broken spear.

"Well that's what I was gonna say, but it's okay.", said Chlevern.

"I think there are levels here, which we will have to pass on and avoid attacks to get an exit from this place.", said Cressida, analysing her surroundings carefully.

Just when she said this, a strange sound came from the surrounding walls. It was like someone was speaking on an amplifier.

"You have entered the punishment chamber. You have to pass the levels of difficulty here as you are not allowed to escape..And if you fail to clear the levels the punishments will be harsh.", a voice sounded like it was on a speaker.

"The levels here are Easy, Difficult and Insane. The punishments await you at each level, I will be glad to see your miserable and desperate faces during the punishments. I won't wish you luck, hope you never escape.", the voice sounded again. But this time it was like a sadistic voice and the speaker was taking a pause in between each line.

"As far as I know, there is no escape from the Punishment Chamber. The control units have been malfunctioning and the system seems hacked.", said Cressida after the voice died down.

"So you mean we are getting a free escape from this place?", asked Chlevern confused.

He was never good with coding and databases, so Chlevern never understood computers much. Though he didn't know the technology of supernatural beings, he understood the basics as he learned about computers in his school.

"Are you alright on your mind? Did he not say we have to pass levels to get out of here? Or are you not taking it seriously? Come on say something why don't you say, speak up!!", Cressida said hurriedly.

"I will speak when you will let me so, be quiet for a moment.", Chlevern said sighing.

Cressida blushed a shade of light red and put her head down in embarrassment. She'd never been this anxious and hyper in any situation, so why today?

'Calm down Cressida.... don't panic. What would he think of you if you panic so much?', thought Cressida but then realisation struck her.

'Wait!!! Why do I care what he'll think about me? I am nothing to him..... probably. Right?.... Right??!!!', she thought to herself. She was overthinking too much which led to her steaming up a little.

Chlevern noticed this and his system did too. The message popped up.

[Mild Warning!

Your partner seems to be emotionally disturbed]

"I know right.", Chlevern sighed.

And the screen went out ~~~~~

'What is she thinking about so much?', Chlevern thought to himself a little confused.

'Only if there was a book to understand girls better but sadly... . Be it human or supernatural beings, the nature of girls is the same all around.', Chlevern thought.

Well he had to clear the levels of this Punishment Chamber along with Cressida and get out of here safely. So he became a little cautious and pulled Cressida out of her deep thoughts..... or rather overthinking.

"Hey, Cressida!!!", Chlevern said in an attempt to wake her up from her thoughts.

"kyaa~..!!!", She let out a cute voice which was startled by the sudden call of Chlevern.

'Shit, what was this cute voice?', Chlevern thought surprised as well.

'Shit, why did I let out such a voice?', Cressida thought embarrassed again.

'WAIT, DID SHE JUST MOAN??!!!'

'WAIT, DID I JUST MOAN??!!!'

They both thought at the same time.

'Well whatever.... it doesn't matter unless we're safe and sound.'

The both thought at the same time again??!!
