Ava And Amelia

Devon's leg was crossed above the other one while he tapped his fingers on the table slowly.

Isla was shaking in fright. The least she expected to see was him.

The questions she still had were forcing her to speak it out loud.

She tried to look at him closely but the place he sat was dim and the light from outside the tiny window only reflected on his fingers that tapped the table repeatedly.

She was sure he was the one sitting there. No one else had the hair he had.

He stood up slowly, he stood straight before looking her way.

His movements scared the hell out of her. She felt like running but her legs were getting numb with fear that stung her heart.

The more closer he came, the more clearer he was to her sight.

He kept walking as if he wanted to walk right through her.

He walked closer before stopping an itch away from her by that time Isla's back was already pressed against the door as an attempt to back away from him.

He leaned over and she froze. His scent filled the air, the smell of Dianthus covered the air.

Her eyes felt heavy all of a sudden. She felt like sleeping, her heartbeat was decreasing.

The more he leaned closer, the more he smelled like nerium oleander.

Devon looked at the beauty in front of him.

She had black inked her and red lips. Her eyes were silver and it complimented her fair skin.

She was indeed beautiful, he was leaning down while staring at himself in her eyes like it was a mirror.

He could see her heavy eyelids that threatened to drop at any moment in slumber.

"You, what are you doing?" She managed to ask with difficulty.

"Why are you still here?" He asked instead.

"Please let me go," Isla had no idea about why she was pleading with him.

"I'm not holding you."

"You stopped me from leaving" She reminded.

"Because you left something here"

"Wh-what could that be?" She stuttered while struggling to keep her voice neutral.

"You forgot to take your tears with you" he said, his blank face was just a breath away.

Isla couldn't keep up with him. Her eyes blinked slowly until they finally dropped, shutting close.

She slid her back on the door as her butt kissed the cold ground.

Devon stared at the collapsed lady in front of him.

His face was devoid of any emotions. He turned around without a care as if he saw nothing.

Leaving her on the cold floor that could possibly freeze anyone.

Miles away from the church stood a house with small windows.

A family of three sat around a round table with food on three plates in front of each of them.

"So I heard about the mission coming up very soon," a man in his forties said.

Two identical sisters looked at each other before turning to look at their plants.

"So what do you both plan on doing?"

The one with red hair spoke.

"We are still thinking of joining," she treaded carefully.

"What do you mean by you both are still thinking?" A frown settled on his face.

"We don't know if we should skip this mission for next time," she replied.

"You both are eighteen already and you are already becoming useless to me. You better go join the missionaries or you both will my house"

"Father please."

"Shut up!" He stood and banged the table with his fists.

The sisters jerked away in fright.

"Now you both will go meet Pappa and tell him you want to join the missionaries or the both of you will join your mother," he threatened.

The one with red hair was already crying in her sister's arms.

Their father's face twitched in annoyance. He wondered what he did to deserve such useless things in his life.

He walked to his room not willing to see their despicable face.

After a while the sisters left the house to go meet Pappa.

They saw what they never expected, Isla rushing into a room that was once owned by the former priest.

"Did you see what I just saw?" One of the sisters asked.

"I saw Ava"

"Hmm that's strange, come let's go meet Pappa."

The two sisters strode to the office of the Pappa.

They knocked "Come in"

Only a few people were allowed to go into his office and they fell luckily amongst them.

"Good day, Pappa."

"Ava and Amelia? My daughters, what brings you both here?" He gestured for them to sit.

"We heard about the missionary and we gladly want to render our services to the church," Ava said with a heavy heart.

"Oh my daughters, the lord will give you both the strength and he will surely grant your secret wishes."

"Thank you so much Pappa."

Amelia remembered her father promised to chase them away from home and the idea of moving out came to her mind.

"Umm Pappa please, is there any vacant room to stay for now? One far from the church." She didn't want to see anyone in particular around so she rather settled at a distance.

"No my daughter, the one left is being taken by someone new who needs it."

"Oh okay thank you Pappa," they said their goodbyes after that.

Going outside, they bumped into someone.

"Ouch!" One of the sisters winced.

"I'm sorry," A manly voice apologized.

Amelia slowly raised her head, her mind fussed. Was it her head playing tricks on her or the man she had waited upon was here right before her.

She instantly raised her head and froze.

"Logan?" She heard her sister call.

"Ava, Amelia have you both seen Isla?" He asked without delay.

Amelia mouth twitched when she had the name she disliked.

She still couldn't believe that he was seeing her for the first time and all he could ask was about Isla. How annoying.

Her sister nudged her and she forced a smile.

"No we haven't" Ave responded.

"Actually.. we have. We saw her running to a room earlier and I heard it belongs to a new man, it is at a distance from here. I think she was in haste to go into.." before she could complete her inappropriate words, Ava nudged on her side with an elbow.

Amelia studied Logan's face to see if her words got to him.

Logan's face was blank and unreadable.

He didn't say anything, he walked past them instead.

He knew this place at heart so he knows where exactly she was talking about.

When he was far from earshot Ava reprehended Amelia.

"Sister you shouldn't have said that."

"What else did you want me to say? You saw it for yourself, you of all people are well aware of how I have been hoping and praying for his return and now that he's back he only cares for that.. thing," she said clearly annoyed by Ava's reproval.

"You should watch it or have you forgotten that you're still in the premises? What if someone hears?" Ava said, looking around.

"Don't blame me okay? I'm just hurt and angry. Besides what is she finding in another man when she has Logan to herself."

"Hey that's enough. We don't know for sure if it is a man or a woman," Ava reminded her.

"Okay fine then. But what do you think Logan would do now? I mean did you see his face?"

Ava sighed "I don't know and I don't want imagine but things are for sure going to turn ugly if he sees her in a bad position, if you know what I mean."

Amelia clapped her hands together in the air "Oh it is going to be very entertaining and scary."

Ava nodded before dragging Amelia with her.
