Chapter 9 Manager

Chapter 9 Manager

"Let's begin this discussion." Phoenix said as she sat down on her throne and looked down upon the three people. Damien was in the middle with Silver and Dark at his left and right respectively.

"Wait!!! How can you let me, a guest stand?" Damien asked as he gestured with his hand.

Phoenix and the other two widened their eyes and looked at him, puzzled as they couldn't understand his meaning.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Am a guest. Where are the seats and refreshments am supposed to have? These two probably work for you but I don't so it means am a guest." He said as he widened his eyes in shock upon seeing the puzzled looks on their faces.

A vein popped on Phoenix's beautiful forehead.

"You are getting in my nerves, red mannequin. Should I kill you?" She asked as she propped up her chin with her hand and her eyes narrowed as a dangerous glint could be seen within them.

"/we are no longer barbarians/. Isn't that the slogan paraded around by Pantheon city's residents? Hmmm!!! Unless you are still uncivilised!?" Damien continued as his left hand massaged his chin while he looked at Phoenix seriously.

'Even though you are stronger than me, I will find a way to collect interest. No one messes with I, Damien 'blood' Okoye.' Thought Damien in his mind as his eyes remained locked with those of the golden figure atop the throne.

Silver's eyes had widened to the point of becoming full moons as the shock was too much for her to bear while Dark was holding her palm over her mouth barely holding back her laughter as she shifted her beautiful eyes between Damien and Phoenix respectively.

Phoenix was the first to break their locked gazes as she moved her eyes away.

"Silver, go and get him some refreshments." She ordered while golden flames rose from the floor in front and behind Damien to form a table and a chair.

He sat down happily as a frown involuntarily formed on Phoenix's forehead upon seeing his smug face. She took a deep breath to calm her emotions.

Dark's beautiful eyes moved away from Phoenix to rest on Damien while they waited for Silver who had gone for refreshments to come back.

A few minutes later, as the three were getting satisfied with the quiet atmosphere, the sound of heels hitting the floor came from the temple's entrance.

Silver appeared while holding a plate covered in a lid and a glass containing an emerald green liquid. She placed them down on the table skillfully and walked to stand back at his left side.

"Eating alone while you two beautiful ladies watch is something a gentleman like me is unable to do. So Silver, would you kindly go and get two other servings of this meal for the two of you so that you can join me at the table?" Damien asked absentmindedly as his mind was focused on what was under the lid of the plate. The aroma reminded him of meat back on Earth.

Phoenix who had been trying to calm her rage, vanished to reappear in front of Damien upon which she waved her hand and the table elongated towards the front of Damien and three seats, two at the side and one directly opposite him formed from the golden flames.

A feast of food appeared on the table and she sat down, crossed her legs and entwined her beautiful hands as she leaned on the table with her elbows while staring at his widely opened mouth.

"I don't want to hear any other complaints from you so we can have a nice, long discussion. Sit!, you two." She ordered the other women.

Damien's eyes were dazzled by the visually stunning food on the table. The aromas alone made sure that his saliva wouldn't stop being created. He forcefully gukped down as his eye increased in brightness.

'All the food on this table must be valuable. Am going to eat till I can't breathe.' He thought as he started digging in.

Silver and Dark too, were surprised by the caliber of the food that was on the table. They were more knowledgeable than Damien and knew that this food was precious even to god kings/queens.

They hurriedly sat down and started eating. The discussion had long slipped Phoenix's mind as they competed to eat more than the others. Only the sound of cutlery clashing could be heard in the temple as food vanished into their stomachs at an astounding rate.

A few minutes later, Damien, whose stomach was busting to the seams, literally was leaning back in his chair with a lazy look on his face. He had loosened his tie and unbuttoned his collar. He looked like a pregnant person with the way his stomach looked. His digestive system was efficient to process low level food but high level food would take time.

Silver and Dark were pretty much in the same situation except for Phoenix, who was laughing uncontrollably as she looked at them.

"So, what did you want to discuss?" Damien asked as he tried to divert the topic since he was embarrassed while Silver and Dark were blushing furiously in the face of her laughter.

"I want you to become a manager for certain properties of mine." Phoenix said as she shifted into her serious persona.

"Which properties?" Damien asked as he rubbed his bulging tummy.

"The residences outside of this palace. I want you to turn them into a high class resort." She continued.

"These two lovely ladies can do such work. I as a demigod aren't needed." He said as he pointed at the two ladies and they nodded vigorously agreeing with him.

"I need a unique creative mind. You are from outside the city. But they have been inside for practically their whole lives. I need uniqueness." She said as she looked into his eyes seriously.

"What will I get in return?" Asked Damien.

"Your hair." She answered.

"Are you kidding me, even though I love my hair, working for you just for that is far fetched. It's basically the same as working for free." He said agitatedly.

"Heheheh... I was kidding. You will be given a fire string to merge with every 10 sun cycles and you will live up here permanently." She giggled as she offered jaw dropping conditions.

'I want you to stay. Please accept...please accept.' She prayed in her mind as she nervously clenched her gown beneath the table and curled her toes. Her heart rate had sped up and she was using all of her will power to appear serious.

Dark pretended not to care but her beautiful pupils occasionally turned in Damien's direction as she too was interested in his response.

Silver was still in shock as offering a string every ten sun cycles was too much. Even though her clan was rich and had a god king behind it, it only offered the most favoured demigod scion an elemental string every 1000 cycles. Every string was uniquely arranged in the universe. It was like DNA and although multiple strings were compatible with your already owned helical string structure in the depths of your cells. Finding them was based on luck rather than talent.

'I won't have to go back to that life outside the universe and I can even live lavishly. Hmmm, it is fitting for the great I.' Damien thought as his hand was still caressing his tummy.

"Before I accept, I have a question." He asked upon which Phoenix and Dark's eyes brightened up as their tense bodies relaxed.

"Ask away." Said Phoenix.

"Can I make any changes to the residences outside?" He asked.

"This entire platform and everything on it is a god emperor artifact. You won't be able to demolish anything with your strength let alone me, but adding things can be done." Phoenix answered.

"Okay. I will take a walk around the property as soon as this stomach decreases in size... By the way, why can I feel hunger and many other things in Pantheon city. And where does the food even cone from such delicacies don't exist in the universe outside." He abruptly asked Phoenix

"Some weird god emperor added some of his divine laws as he passed by the city and everything changed from that day. Gods first started weaving food but they soon got tired of it as the requests were endless. You do know that gods are the only ones who can give life to constructs, right?" She asked upon which Damien nodded.

"A certain god came up with an idea. He created to unintelligent lifeforms, one male and one female. He made them as solutions to the meat he needed to create and nurtured them until they reproduced. That's where the meat comes from. Plants too were created in the same way. Now we just need to grow them. They also created versions with lesser strings to cater for the various lower leveled elemental string weavers." She continued.

"Multiple other gods also wanted to mimic that god emperor and created multiple products which affect those lower than them and that's how Pantheon City became this prosperous. When inside it, you always need something which requires you to spend and so leads to quadrillions of elemental crystals being exchanged daily." Dark Phoenix supplemented upon which Damien's mouth widened upon hearing about such a large volume of elemental crystals.
