Chapter 38

I slipped away silently to follow the two men. Momo and Nathaniel were too busy pissing each other off to notice my sudden absence.

I followed the two strangers to the dark parking lot. Situating myself behind the bushes, I waited for something unusual to happen.

Just as I expected, a masked stranger with a cape emerged from the shadows and silenced both strangers. After they fell unconscious, he took the book.

"Give that book back, Auriel!" I jumped out and pointed at him dramatically.

The masked thief turned around. I realized it wasn't him.

Another phantom thief!?

"I believe you have the wrong person, Miss." He quickly pulled out a gun. It was a legit loaded pistol with 100% real bullets. He began shooting at me without hesitation.

I ran for cover as a rain of bullets came my way. I wasn't sure if I was going to live.

"You're actually trying to stop a thief without a weapon on hand? Are you stupid?"
