Josh protested again, but Carol gave him the cold shoulder. While she loved her brother unconditionally, she won't let him derail her life choices again. The young businesswoman was financially self-dependent now and needed nobody's support to build her career. She wasn't going to be bullied into marriage.

Elias' proposal actually gave Carol a fresh perspective. The young woman was determined to start a conversation with Victor again, even if it was awkward and bitter. She already felt excited about renewing their bonds.

"Did you reject me because of Victor?" Elias asked bitterly all of a sudden.

Carol was taken aback. Were her feelings for Victor so obvious that he figured it out from her facial expressions?

"To some extent, yes," she replied with a slight nod. "But the principal reason I don't want to get involved in a relationship is that I am heavily focused on my career right now and want to keep it a solo journey."
