The Peasants System(Hiatus)

This book has been Dropped. I apologize for the inconvenience. I put a lot of effort into this story and had big plans for it but Its progress has been lackluster. I have been reviewing it as well as one of my more successful stories and have found some of the flaws that this story had. I'm working on a new story that will hopefully be a better read overall and will hopefully be released by the end of October 2022. --- Drew Pence had always had a rough life. From the moment his brother was born he was thrown to the side and was treated as a stepping stone for their 'Golden Son'. But even though his family had made his life a living hell he still believed they had his back. That if all else failed, they would be there for him. But he was wrong. He got stabbed and after waking in the hospital his family was nowhere to be found. They had ditched him. So he made a deal with a stranger. Go to a place where you can receive true freedom... and in return, all you owe him is a single favor. And that was how Drew found himself in the world of Lune, a land of Myth and Magic, Gods and Demons, and Peasants and Kings. Drew awakes with a hangover in a body older and stronger than he had ever known back and earth. Though he quickly finds that he lacks something everyone else has. Magic. But as time goes by, he finds that gaining magic is the least of his difficulties. Will he tough out this hostile world with his unique [Mana Reaper] skill? Or will he perish like all the others who were born a Peasant? Only time can tell what fate awaits Drew. --- Hey guys, if you reading this after reading one of my previous works I just wanted to give you an explanation of what caused me to move on. I had a lot of health issues that popped up suddenly and found that I didn't have the energy or focus to write much and after around 3-4 months I felt that I had lost connection with the book and found it harder to write. After some deliberation, I decided to move on and work on this story instead which has been brewing in my head for a few years now. I hope you enjoy it!

Lost...

As Drew became more aware he began to notice some things that were not as they should be.

'Why am I... so tall?'

He observed his sturdy frame and realized he had shot up quite a bit in height from before and from what he could tell... he had gained at least 30 pounds.

"Nickten," Drew sounded out in a strange tone. It was an unfamiliar word that he had never once heard.

The fat tavern keep nodded at Drew's obvious statement with more pity becoming evident by the moment.

"Yes, Nickten indeed. Far from where you come from I suppose," He said as he motioned towards Drew's body.

"Why is that?" Drew asked instinctually.

The tavern keep, or most likely Fig, gave a surprised expression while scanning Drew's face.

"Well... you are obviously not a Seaborn. Or a Stormborn from what I can tell," He said while frowning slightly.

"Where do you come from, Lad?"

Drew felt waves of confusion hit him as he realized he was unfamiliar with almost everything the man had just said.

"I... come from a place called Earth. I think so at least," He said hesitantly.

Fig cracked a smile for a moment and light-filled his eyes as he was about to laugh at the obvious joke but stopped himself when seeing the look on Drew's face.

"Are you being serious?"

Drew nodded slowly.

'Am I from earth? Was it all a dream? Am I really just a drunkard?'

"It seems as if you have lost your memories," Fig said in a sad tone.

It was then that Drew felt a weight on either side of his waists. It was subtle. Almost as if he had his pockets stuffed to the brim.

He looked down at the lower half of his body to find that he was wearing clothes akin to Fig and was surprised even more when he saw the two deadly Farmer Scythes tied onto either side of his waist.

"Alrighty, sonny... it might be best if we get you to the temple of Bram, Maybe they will be able to remedy your ailing memory," Fig said in a worried tone.

Drew nodded slowly in response, confusion still hitting him from the strange words that were spoken.

Fig nodded silently and slowly stopped prepping to open the tavern. He grabbed a small key ring and a small sack of what would be presumed to be coins and beckoned for Drew to follow him.

The outside of the Tavern was even stranger than the inside, however.

The sky was a brazen orange that filled the air with a warmth that wasn't overwhelming like back on earth. It was refreshing.

The streets, if you could even call them that, were simply packed dirt that was made with the passage of time.

The buildings around them were few and far apart but each one of them looked as if they had been built hundreds of years ago in a day and age where modern building techniques were absent.

Men and Women, as well as children, wandered around fields of grain and produce. It seemed as if everyone was working.

After nearly 10 minutes of these strange sights, they found themselves in a more densely packed area of the city they were in.

It seemed to remind Drew of the farmer's markets from Earth. Rows and rows of stalls packed narrow streets and people haggled over the smallest detail. Coins of various shapes and materials were passed between greedy and needy hands as the day-to-day lifestyle continued on as always.

Fig seemed to ignore these merchants and walked with purpose through the densely packed marketplace.

'There are very few people dressed in anything better than what I am wearing... most are off worse,'

---

Drew could tell they were nearing the end of their journey as Fig began to take shaky breaths from the traveling.

They approached a stone-paved street that seemed miles better compared to the dirt roads from before. Buildings that looked nobler and esteemed were on either side of them and the people that walked the streets had fine clothing on that resembled that of an aristocrat or the sort.

Fig kept his head down as they reached this part of the town, and so did Drew in turn. He had gotten used to being careful around others throughout his life...

They walked a little further and what stood before them made Drew gasp audibly, bringing a few unwanted gazes his way.

It was a cathedral larger than any other he had seen before. Stained glass panes colored the outside of the building and brought a holy feeling to the area surrounding it.

The pictures depicted upon the stone walls of the Cathedral and the stained glass depicted a man and his followers. The man seemed taller than most but shorter than what Drew would consider a giant. He had a large scraggly beard and wore clothes worse than his followers.

One would easily mistake him for a drunkard or a beggar if not for the golden eyes that pierced through the souls of those he looked upon.

Words were strewn up upon the top of the largest pane of glass and it simply said 'Bram, All-Maker'

Fig did not give him the time to stare at the glass any longer however as he was pulled through the massive stone doors into a vacant hall.

The sound of bells ringing could be heard as the door opened gently and the smell of incense filled Drew's nose and caused a certain amount of calm to come over him.

A small carpet was laid against the ground of the entrance and Fig stopped at just the edge of it.

"Why are we stop-"

"Shh!" Fig said loudly as he raised a finger to his lips.

Drew obliged as he remained silent.

Fig slowly knelt in place and held his hands in prayer and motioned for Drew to do the same.

After a while of silence, footsteps could faintly be heard coming closer. Though Drew kept his eyes closed as he was instructed.

After the footsteps had made their way just mere feet away from Fig and him a noise beckoned out.

"Have you sinned?" A raspy voice echoed out in the hall.

Fig drew a deep breath before responding.

"Yes,"

"Do you repent?"

"Yes,"

"And how about you, Godfallen?"

Silence filled the air for a moment before Drew guessed that he was the one to speak.

"No, I have not sinned,"

An old rasp of a laugh could be heard throughout the halls and he could feel Fig's breath becoming more and more labored.

"I see, Child,"

"You have not sinned. May I take your hands to confirm that such a thing is true?" The old man echoed out with an ominous amount of humor to them.

Drew wordlessly raised his hands in the direction of the voice.

Old calloused hands firmly grasped upon his own and a strange amount of energy began to flood through him.

[The skill [Mana Reaper] has initiated. Mana absorption has begun]

A voice echoed throughout Drew's mind. It was robotic and reminiscent of an A.I.-generated voice. It was cold and emotionless.

'What the?'

The hands that clasped his moments before began to spasm lightly as a groan was heard, echoing throughout the hall.

After nearly 10 minutes of the old man fighting the drain of what seemed to be his magic he finally released his hands and let out a sigh.

"You... are not a Child of Bram," He said in a shaky voice that was no longer filled with humor.

"You have an affinity with Oleander, the goddess of death. She has blessed you to wield her wicked Scythes that hang upon your sides,"

"Yet even with this blessing... you are stranger still,"

"You have not a drop of magic to your name... But like a leech drawn to blood, magic comes to you yet does not heed your call,"

Silence filled the room for a moment, only the sound of the two men's haggard breaths beside him could be heard.

"I ask of you Child of Oleander... What ails you?"

Drew took a deep breath in as he felt a lot of overwhelming feelings fill him... as well as that strange robotic voice.

"My memories are faltering. I feel as if this world is foreign to me... as well as this body,"

"I seek help!" He said in a voice that was on the verge of begging.

"Help you shall have..."

"You are a god chosen. A sacred person that is to be aided in his needs so that maybe one day they may help us in return,"

"Please... Leave us Fig Galewald. This is no longer a matter of your concern,"

"May Bram be on your side,"

Faint shuffling could be heard from Drew's side and the heavy door opened once more as Fig had left.

"Open your eyes child, look upon my face so that you may see me clearly, and I, you,"

Light filled Drew's eyes for a moment and clarity filled his mind.
