Chapter 4

Time was flying faster than ever before if that is even possible. Days turned into weeks and weeks into months that I am still here in this weird town. The outsider that everyone hates. And I still had made no friends or had a job for that matter. I spend my days in my cabin, reading books that were left here by Beta Deimos and moping around.

I was assigned childcare, so I would help the mothers with their 'pups' as they call it.

Turns out werewolves were a real thing and I wasn't just dreaming. At first, I thought I was hurt far worse than I thought and maybe that's why I was imagining things. But it gets me wondering if there is anything more than just werewolves, something more magical. It was still hard to understand it, but Deimos tried to help me as much as he can. Even though my brain could not comprehend the information. But he would refuse to talk about any other species if there is any, besides his own kind.

Alpha was the leader, Beta second in command, and Gamma third in line. With pack warriors and their families coming in 4th place on the pyramid system and then there were omegas, the lowest, the weakest ones. They would clean, cook and do all the other similar duties. So I guess I was even in a different category as that because I wasn't even a werewolf, and didn't do any duties at all, so I'd be at the end of it. The lowest of the low, weakest of the weak.

That was the sad part. People didn't want to accept me, they would mock me and make fun of me. Throw a fist or two. Alpha Eros didn't help the case as he was the harshest of them all. Nothing more than I expected from him. Throwing me around like a rag doll. And because of this, I didn't have much work going for me as people did not trust me. I guess I still had my own little corner, this cabin, where I could hide away from everyone and heal. But it was beginning to feel pathetic.

As time passed I grew a thicker skin, learning to ignore all the insults coming my way. But it wasn't enough. I wasn't enough. I had to learn to stand up for myself, maybe that would gain some sort of respect, at least from some.

As I was laying on the love seat in my cabin, someone suddenly knocked on my door. I got up to check who it was and after seeing him I smiled brightly and opened the door.

'Hello, Beta Deimos.' I opened the door wider to gesture for him to come in.

He walked past me with a dazzling smile of his own.

'Hello, little one. I see you're still drowning in your own misery.' he points his hand into the mess of the living space.

'You can't blame me.' I let out a puff.' And you should really stop calling me a little one, it's annoying and unnecessary.' I crossed my arms over my chest.

'It's not necessary, but I enjoy the annoyed look you have in your eyes.'He chuckles.' Though I have an answer to your question, at least about the townspeople.'

'What about it?'I asked.

'Well, I'm going to train you of course.' He looked at me confidently.

'Train me?' my eyes nearly fell out of their sockets.' As in fighting?'

'Yes, Alpha won't be too happy about it but that's why we are not gonna tell him.' he nodded slightly.

'Of course.'

And so from that day on, I would train every second day until my body would be at the breaking point.

*****

It was week three as I was training with Deimos that everything went south.

We were in a mostly covered little clearing in the woods. I wouldn't even call it a clearing, it was just a big enough spot in between the trees. You still couldn't see the sky properly, the sun barely coming through the tree branches, you could still tell it was daytime, though hardly, but it was private and it's all that mattered.

'I showed you this move so many times and you still don't get it right!' Beta was losing his patience. I couldn't blame him, I could just about manage with the training, if it was a class that I would need to pass, I'd fail.

'I'm sorry.' That was all I managed to say. He kept coming at me, me barely managing to move out of the way on time.

My muscles screamed at me as I tried to keep going. But I refused to give up just yet.

'It's not good enough!' He finally yelled.' Do you want to be able to protect yourself or do you want to continue being the town's punching bag forever?'

'I'm trying.' I screamed, my voice sounding more like a shriek than anything else.

We danced around each other. He was looking more like prey, me his victim.

'Not good enough!' He growled.

Without me seeing it, his fist went up from underneath and I felt his punch in my guts.

Let me tell you something, that hurt like a bitch. I let out a quiet scream and fell to the ground, my body having enough for the day.

I can't do it anymore, I just can't.

'Stop.' I whispered.' I can't continue.' I coughed to the ground. Small splashes of blood coming from my mouth. Shit. Beta looked at me apologetically and stepped a little closer to me when suddenly his whole body went tense. Oh no...

'No.' I heard him say.

'Shit.' I sucked in a breath.

I quickly looked at Deimos and realized we are screwed.

Alpha Eros caught us doing something we shouldn't be doing. And now we will be paying the consequences, or rather I will be paying it. I will be lucky if I survived it at all.
