Chapter 49: A Woman Scorned

Weston left the chief's house with the new and old rings in his pocket. He was going to return the new ring quickly before losing it. He pulled up in front of the jewelry store and was about to walk in when he saw Christie exiting a nearby boutique with a couple of women. None of them were Felicity.

"Hey, Christie," he hollered to get her attention. She saw him and smiled. She turned to the other women and told them she'd be right back.

She walked up to him and gave him a quick, friendly hug.

"Hey, Weston, what's up?"

"Not too much. Have you seen Felicity by chance today?"

He could sense he was about to be lied to because he knew Christie would absolutely cover for Felicity in a heartbeat. "I just want to make sure she doesn't see me going into the jewelry store."

"Oh, gotcha. No, I haven't. Are you buying what I think you are?"

"I might be. So don't tell her you saw me, okay?"

"I sure won't."

"I'll catch you later, okay? Enjoy the rest of your day."
