Chapter 48: The Last Letter

It was still raining when the group climbed back into Edwin’s waiting cab and drove back down the dark, wet roads to the manor.

Arras, Aedan and Brennus were in the sitting room, with Faelen snoring peacefully by the fireplace.

“They are coming here,” Rhea said in response to Arras’ questioning gaze. “The priests are going to meet you down at the ruins.”

“It’s the third day,” Brennus said. “The ritual will need to be done at dawn.”

“So we have a whole day to prepare?” Andrew asked eagerly.

Arras eyed the man with the slightest amount of humor.

“We, vampires, will prepare. You, mortals, have a whole day to work,” Arras said.

The archeology crew looked crestfallen. Hoffman laughed at the sight. Waving his hands, he shepherded his team towards the Garden Hall.

“You heard the landowner! Get to work!” Hoffman looked like he took great joy in saying those words.

“Hey, Rhea,” Arras took her hand suddenly. “I need to speak with you later, when you have time.”
