Calls From Far

At first, the rain started off slowly, but within a few minutes, it began to pour down heavily. Nakami had already returned to his house and was busy cleaning himself with hot water. As he finished, he looked outside through his window and watched the rain falling hard.

With a deep sigh, he closed his eyes and allowed himself to relax.

Upon waking up, he quickly checked his phone.

Nakami thought to himself, "Oh, the rain has finally stopped. It was quite chilly out there... Maybe I should make a heater?" as he opened his door.

He headed to the dining area to search for some food, but he found out that the girls had already prepared breakfast. It turned out that they were full of energy and had managed to sleep for four hours before they started doing something and eventually ended up making breakfast.

During breakfast, Nakami informed the girls that this was a regular occurrence with the [Night Owl] skill. He also mentioned the trenches outside and showed them where they were, in case they hadn't noticed. To prepare them for his absence, Nakami then taught the girls how to use the wooden bridges to leave the base and how to help him open it when he was away.

The trenches already filled with water and it looks flowing but not so much since only extra waters would be transferred out. Nakami wanted to go out to gather more resources like wood, metals, stones and so on. He wanted to build a storage building to keep some resources outside without crossing the bridges.

Just before dawn, Nakami left the base to gather the resources he needed, bringing along most of his tools for building. He headed to the spring area first, where he could collect stone and wood. He made three trips to gather enough resources before taking a break.

After gathering the necessary resources, Nakami began constructing the warehouse using wood. By midday, the building was complete. It was entirely made of wood, as Nakami intended to enhance it later with the resources he had gathered.

The warehouse was 20 meters by 10 meters in size and stood at a height of 3 meters. It featured two floors, and Nakami also built an underground basement that he later converted into a resting room. The entrance to the base was concealed underground with a trapdoor.

Nakami had planned to make the warehouse as sturdy and secure as possible. To achieve this, he spent 100E to upgrade the wooden warehouse. After the upgrade, the warehouse looked modern, with only a few parts of the wall still covered in wood.

Most of the walls were now made of stone, and the windows were made with tinted mirrors to prevent people from seeing inside. The door looked solid and had a hidden switch to unlock it. There were only two entrances; the main one was large enough to allow a log cart to pass through, while the smaller one was just enough for two adults to enter at once.

Nakami unloaded all the wood and stone inside the warehouse and organized them properly. He then began his journey to mine for gold ore and coal. He planned to make at least three trips to gather as much coal as possible, as Alice wanted to learn some forgery. This would require a significant amount of coal to fuel the forge and furnace.

It took Nakami approximately two hours to complete his trips. He stored some of the ores inside the warehouse while bringing the rest to be kept in the designated storage area for resources next to the forge. Nakami had lunch alone since the girls were busy conducting their experiments.

Nakami planned to explore the river area and check if the group of huge rabbits was still there. He prepared by bringing his cart, weapons, and one hundred arrows in case of an emergency.

Upon arrival, Nakami cleared most of the areas he had explored before near the river. However, he did not encounter any huge rabbits on his way there. He then hid his cart in the bushes and brought his weapons to explore the uncharted area. Fortunately, he had the map function, so he would not get lost if he needed to run.

After half an hour of trekking, Nakami found no trace of the huge rabbits. It was as if they had never existed in the first place. Nakami wondered if he was hallucinating or if they were just illusions. However, he remembered encountering them before, so he knew they were real.

Suddenly, he saw a small rabbit that was about the size of a standard pet store rabbit. When Nakami approached the rabbit, it quickly ran away. He decided to adjust his approach and become more quiet and stealthy to see if there were more rabbits. At the very least, he could catch some and breed them for food.

He was right. He encountered many rabbits and managed to catch six pairs for breeding. He left them in wooden cages on the cart as he ventured deeper into the forest.

An hour later, his mapping function revealed over 10 km area of forest. He realized that his base was at the island's edge, as the number of trees dwindled toward it.

With two hours until nightfall, he headed back to his base with his harvest. In addition to the rabbits, he gathered bananas and potatoes, and even lucked upon some carrots, which he brought back with him.

When he returned, Alice and Sarah unloaded the fruits, and he began building a large hutch for the rabbits to breed in. As he worked, he also flattened more ground for farming. Once everything was complete, they all had dinner together.

They spent a few hours studying and recording today's video, but Nakami informed them that there would be no video tomorrow. He had taken some time to think and realized that he needed to rest for at least one day when producing content. Some content required more time to produce.

With two hours before midnight and all his daily tasks completed, he decided to spent 100E in studying architecture and construction science to improve his knowledge. Nakami felt that his current knowledge of building was primitive and outdated, so he wanted to learn more.

As he finished learning about architecture and construction, Nakami sighed.

"Most of the buildings I've made were just average, or even below average," he thought.

"Now that I've improved, maybe I should start rebuilding some of them tomorrow."

Nakami was grateful for investing in knowledge, and he even wanted to invest more. However, he worried that his brain couldn't handle too much at once. Moreover, he wanted to make notes so that he could teach the girls later.

Meanwhile, in Sarah's room, the lamp was still on as she read an entry college-level chemistry book. Nakami had told her that she was a genius and allowed her to read higher-level science books, but she found it challenging to understand. Although she recognized some of the terms, it was still difficult. Eventually, she closed the book and turned off the lamp to go to sleep.

As Sarah lay in bed looking at the ceiling fan Nakami had made, she thought, "I wish I could be smarter so I could help Master. I can't help them physically, so I need to learn faster."

To Sarah, Nakami was like a father or brother she never had in her previous life. Being praised by Nakami made her happy and delighted, and she felt appreciated. Most importantly, Nakami never forced her to do anything.

Sarah held the collar she kept next to her bed and thought, "Although he can do everything alone, I hope he gets more help from others." Then she went to sleep.

Meanwhile in the laboratory.

Alice was still making simple soap from the fats left. She had produced a lot of them and kept them for Nakami to turn into something better. Ever since she got [Night Owl], she worked much harder at night because she wanted to help Nakami more.

Sarah used to think that she wasn't enough for Nakami, which was why he didn't respond when she flirted or hinted at him. However, after the incident with the rabbits, she realized that there were more important things to focus on for a better and safer life on the island.

After finishing everything, Alice went to her room and lay down on her bed.

She thought, "I really hope I can be with him forever. But am I good enough to have him to myself? Any woman would fall in love with him after meeting him here," as she watched videos of them together from their skits with her pendant.

The night was dark with no moonlight and it was slightly cloudy. Suddenly, dozens of pillars of light fell from the sky, scattered everywhere. Their fall momentarily illuminated the forest, making it as bright as day.
