Back to the Academy

Zac was now 15 years old. For his age, he had already learned the basics of physics and basic chemistry.

His knowledge was good for a boy his age, and he could be considered a talent with the aptitude to one day pursue a career as a scientist in areas close to these two subjects.

But amid his current dilemma, he didn't immediately think of ways to solve his situation. He just found something that wouldn't stop working near him and flipped through the physics textbook, looking for something that might help him.

He would return to his usual study routine tomorrow, so he had to solve his situation. If he walked into the classroom and saw everyone naked, it would be a big problem!

'From what I've noticed so far, my biggest problems are my eyesight and inability to use electronic devices.' He tried to identify the problem so he would know what to do next.

'If I touch any electronic, it stops working. But just by being near such things, they don't work as they should.' He thought about moving one of his arms and seeing how the lamp in his room worked worse and worse the closer he got to it.

'It will be difficult to solve my vision problem. It doesn't make sense for me to see through people's clothes.'

Light traveled in a straight line and wouldn't simply ignore any material in its path. Even a transparent material would change something in the information carried by the light. Seeing through someone's clothes was out of the realm of what a high school student should be able to do.

Zac put the problem aside after leafing through his book, imagining that it would be difficult for him to train or master something he had no idea what was behind.

But he could imagine an explanation for the electrical phenomenon happening to him.

'Maybe I am emitting magnetic waves? It must be some kind of electromagnetic phenomenon. Maybe I should start by testing how far away from me I can influence it.' He thought.

Testing or training a suddenly awakened special power wasn't as easy as the comics and fantasy stories made it out to be. When he woke up in the hospital earlier, Zac hadn't gained any special instinct that told him what to do. He felt pain and noticed how strangely he perceived the reality around him.

He almost despaired but managed to calm down and keep what he had noticed to himself. But that was just a precaution. He didn't want to become a test subject, be sent to a sanatorium, or 'become an alien.' So he didn't freak out or show any signs of what he was going through.

But he honestly had no idea how to control what was happening to him.

As for the idea that it was all a delusion in his mind, he honestly couldn't rule it out. But he preferred to believe he wasn't crazy, so he accepted that he had strangely gained extraordinary powers.

The fact he couldn't remember what happened three days ago gave him some hope.

Anyway, he tried the basics without knowing how to control his current situation. Since the devices didn't work when he got close, he simply tried to learn his limits.

First, he placed his smartphone near his bedroom door and slowly walked away from the device.

As he walked away one step at a time, he noticed the phone started working again, 2 meters away from him. However, at that distance, it was enough for him to make the smartphone open various apps chaotically.

He didn't know what was behind it and put it aside to try to find explanations for such a phenomenon in the future. He just moved a little farther away until, 6 meters from the smartphone, the device stopped behaving strangely.

'That must be the safety limit.' Zac wrote it down on a piece of paper, imagining that it would help him someday.

...

The next day, Zac left home alone early in the morning and walked to the neighborhood school.

He had spent most of the previous day testing his new abilities but had failed to master any of them.

He was still causing malfunctions in electronic devices near him and seeing naked people in his path. Fortunately, these phenomena were harmless to him and other people around him, so he didn't see any problems when his sister forced him to go to school early.

But he was in a hurry to solve his problem. Unlike the streets, where most people were usually physically unattractive, this was not the case in his class.

He wasn't a freak, but if he had to spend more than eight hours in a class of completely naked people, he might have problems!

'Maybe the pressure will help me find a way to control it.' He imagined seeing the first of his classmates on their way to school, trying to stop himself from thinking absurd thoughts.

Fortunately, someone appeared in his path to change his focus, just as he felt something growing in his groin...

"Zac, are you okay, man? I heard you were in the hospital for two days." His friend's voice reached his ears, making him turn to look behind him.

Zac smiled at his best friend, Sean, as the young black-haired youth approached him with a worried look. "I'm fine... I could be better, but don't worry."

"I heard Dario's group surrounded you after we said goodbye that day. Is that true? Were they the ones who put you in the hospital?" Sean asked with an ugly expression on his face.

Sean and Zac had been friends since they were five years old. They lived near each other, and their sisters knew each other. So even though one of them was much more popular than the other, they were friends and went to school together.

As for Dario, he was a young man who used to bully Zac, a well-known bully at Eastside High School.

The moment he heard Sean's question, Zac's expression changed. "Did you hear that?"

"Didn't I?" Sean didn't know about Zac's recent memory loss.

"I honestly don't know. I don't remember that day at all. The last thing I remember is waking up in the morning and going to school." Zac said, surprising Sean. "After that, I woke up in the hospital room where I was until yesterday."

"That's... Are you serious?"

"Hmm." Zac's eyes narrowed as he looked at Sean. "Tell me what you heard. Maybe it will help me remember what happened."

Sean sighed and walked back to Eastside High School. "Well, everything went as usual that day. We had four classes in the morning, and then we went to lunch. That's when we got separated because of our different matters.

From what I heard, you and Dario had a disagreement during music class, and he promised to take care of you on the way out. What I know after that is hearsay. I thought you would confirm what happened, but it seems that only he and his group of idiots can do that." Sean sighed as he said that.
