Chapter 8: Any Port in the Storm

Erika was torn on what to do. The French Underground had a safehouse in a small coastal hamlet called Foucarville. The Allied invasion was to begin any day if the weather cooperated. Moving closer to the coast meant that there was a chance they could get caught up in the shelling.

The other option was to move further inland, but if the operation didn’t go well, they could get caught up behind enemy lines, making escape all the more difficult.

She asked if Volker knew the way to Foucarville. He said that he did, that he was ‘friends’ with a young woman who worked at a boarding house there.

“If your safehouse is no longer safe, I could probably convince her to hide us at the boarding house,” he’d said.

She decided that Foucarville it was, because if the old man who had been her contact hadn’t been able to get the information she’d left him in the cemetery to the Allies, perhaps the members of the Resistance in Foucarville would help her relay it.
