Jessica's saccharine tone grated on Anne's nerves. She forced a smile, turning to face the woman who had caused so much turmoil in her past. Jessica stood there, her perfect smile firmly in place, as if they were old friends rather than anything else.
"Jessica," Anne replied, her voice neutral as she clasped her hands together. She felt her wolf stir uneasily beneath the surface, sensing her discomfort.
Jessica stepped closer, her eyes gleaming with what Anne could only describe as fake warmth. "I heard Ryan is starting his physical training soon. You must be so proud! Don't worry, I'll make sure he's well taken care of. It'll be fun to have him under my wing during the training sessions."
Anne's stomach twisted. "You're leading his physical training?" Her voice was calm, but she couldn't hide the unease creeping in.
