CHAPTER 5

DAVID HERINGER

LONDON, ENGLAND

DAVID LIVE RECORDED the new song he wrote for Ivy, the song was called "A Love for a Lifetime", he wrote after he read the book "The Moon Behind the Sun", he was so moved by the dedication:

To the best husband, lover and friend in the world...

He was uncomfortable arriving in New York empty— handed.

David asked the audience for five minutes and said that the song he would sing was for the most beautiful woman in the world, and that the song would be recorded right there, live.

The letter said:

A love for a lifetime

No deceit, illusory dreams and false words

It's jumping out of a plane without a parachute

The song was an immediate success, in less than a week it was already number one on the charts in Europe.

His producer recorded it and on the same day mixed the song and showed David the result.

David made a copy and sent it to New York, explaining in the letter that this was the song he had written for Ivy during that tour.

At the same moment that she opened the letter and was going to get the CD to listen to it, the song played on the radio, it was the music of the moment in all of Europe, and because of that, David had to stay another month in England, because of the great success that the song made.

Ivy was so eager to talk about the baby, everyone in both families already knew except David. Everyone promised to keep it a secret, since it was Ivy's job to tell David the big news, the news he'd waited years for.

They talked to each other every day on the phone.

Ivy loved the song — in fact, the whole world did.

Their producer released the song on a single CD, which they were able to sell at a very affordable price, and this earned them millions for copies sold. But David just wanted to go home, he was tired of traveling, he wanted to be alone with Ivy for a while, but not in hotels with crowds outside screaming his name.

David promised to come back the first chance he got, and he did.

After all that madness of concerts all over Europe, events and everything, it was winter in New York. David had two free weeks to enjoy with his family, he never imagined that Ivy was pregnant — since the whole family knew and kept the secret so Ivy could tell.

In the last two months she hasn't been on any TV shows for fear that her belly will be talked about and spoil the surprise for her newest dad.

WHEN DAVID ARRIVED IN AMERICA, he didn't want to call Ivy to pick him up at the airport — because he wanted to surprise her.

David rented a car and drove himself. Although his producer had forbidden him to direct — as he was too tired from the exhausting tour, and she was just getting started, and the main objective at that moment was to rest.

David took a two— week vacation, just to see his family and then get back to the routine of concerts and crowds screaming his name.

Traffic was terrible that afternoon.

David heard a loud scream and a thief suddenly got into his car.

— Go on, playboy — said the crook, threatening to shoot if David didn't run straight away.

David immediately began to run out among the cars, sometimes climbing on the sidewalks, driving like a madman running away from some vehicles that were coming after him.

Cameras accompanying the cinematic breakout were able to see that whoever was behind the wheel was world— famous musician David Heringer and he was being followed by the police, both by land and by air.

David was on every channel that broadcast the police chase to arrest the thief who had taken him prisoner.

The thief just said that it would be ok if David just drove that car wherever he wanted — since it was not his intention to kill his favorite artist — the thief even showed the CD with the Single, A love for a lifetime.

David smiled slightly and remained calm as usual, nothing disturbed him, not even half the police fleet behind him. Sometimes his calm irritated people, but at that moment it was essential.

The thief seemed completely upset by the situation he had caused, and the entire country was following that maddening escape on television.

All roads were cleared so that the car would not suffer any unnecessary accidents, after all, David was a public figure and certainly the authorities would use that event to promote themselves.

An hour the gas would run out, so the police could take all necessary precautions.

All along the way, David was talking quietly with the thief, he discovered that his name was Charles Wilburn, and he was desperate because his daughter had been kidnapped. David didn't have children yet, but he knew in his gut that if he had to do it, he wouldn't hesitate to do it either, nor would he regret doing it later — not that it justified his actions, but if his son was so precious., it would be worth the risk to save him from starvation.

David was helpful, said he would help take care of Charles' daughter when they got out of that situation, he gave his word as a man, as Charles was a Protestant backslidden from his faith, and he was desperate for little Jennie, and for Charles, the word of a pastor's son counted a lot, and also... Charles saw in David's eyes that that was the purest truth, those eyes didn't bring accusation or fear...

They were real eyes, thought Charles, eyes of someone who wants to help people first...

But, at a certain point, when David was moved by the story of that man — without them realizing it, they became friends –, David didn't pay attention to the barrier he had in front of him — because the police were guiding the car through the safest routes.

David lost control of the car and overturned several times.

IVY WAS HAPPY WITH PREGNANCY, DAVID was returning from his best tour for his well— deserved vacation and she couldn't wait to tell him about the child she was expecting, but when she turned on the television, her life flashed before her eyes like a horror trailer that doesn't end.

Ivy ran out, got into her car, and ran off to meet her David.

It had been a long time since she had prayed to God and she realized that she was already desperately crying out for her lover.

Ivy was speeding down the road and didn't notice a car following her, and at the opportune moment the pursuer shot the front tire and Ivy's car flipped several times.
