Greg walked into his home, greeted by the warm glow of the living room. Ruby, his little bundle of joy, sat engrossed in cartoons, her eyes sparkling with delight while munching on popcorn.
As soon as she heard the creak of the door opening, she turned her head, "Daddy! You're back!" she sprang up and rushed to Greg.
Wrapping her tiny arms around his legs, she asked, "Daddy, where did you go? I woke up and couldn't find you anywhere, and mommy said she had no idea." She looked up at him with curious eyes.
Greg squatted down, pulling her into a warm embrace. He planted a soft kiss on her forehead, feeling a surge of love and tenderness. "I went to see a friend, Sweetie," he replied, trying to sound casual despite the turmoil brewing inside.
Ruby beamed, seemingly satisfied with the answer. Suddenly, her face froze at the sight of a bruise on his face. Her cute face morphed into a scowl but no one could ever take her seriously.
