The Legion System

On one fated day, tens of millions of clueless people scattered throughout the world suddenly vanished without a trace. Their existence from the hearts and minds of those who had been left behind was delivered into oblivion, leaving the chosen ones as visages of the past. New identities had been forged as they found themselves in front of angelic beings who looked down on them like parasites that should never exist. "Have these puny mortals really been chosen by the Tower?" Radan Myrr, a destitute man who has been taking care of his mentally ill grandmother alone, as he was among the naive ones transported to the Tutorial Floor, heard the angel's voice filled with intense repulsion. It was then... Ding! [Welcome to the Tower of Worlds, Adventurer!] [You have been bestowed a Divine Blessing!] [You have gained the "Last Will of the Forgotten Legionnaire!] [You have obtained the Legion System!] [You shall remember those your heart holds true.] [For they shall perish, your heart shall be beholden, too.] Amidst these extraordinary circumstances, there was only one thing flooding Radan's troubled mind, knowing that his grandmother at this very moment was already at death's door. "Well, adventurers! Let the party begins! Hehe."

Snap!

With the snap of her fingers, a pile of crude weapons arbitrarily scattered throughout the field. After that, every adventurer including Radan was notified of another message.

[May your journey find its way to the next.]

Before everyone could process the information about the Trial Quest, several hundred meters away from the corner of the last person in this plane, thousands of small, humanoid, green-skinned creatures, each one with rows of sharp teeth and pointy ears, with light crimson eyes, ran towards them in all directions.

The pronounced tremor sensation was akin to a zoo with wild animals being freed and caused an stampede.

"S–Shit! Get your goddamn weapons! Quick!"

"Sword, where's a fucking sword?!"

"H–hand me something, a bow and arrows, please!"

Crack.

Radnan, amidst the panicking and disorganized crowd, crushed the rune stone that suddenly appeared in his right hand as a flowing golden aura pervaded his entire body.

Radan focused on the Skill Effect rather than reading everything as he started to look for a crude sword, which he found some distance away amidst the messy crowd. It was a surreal feeling; it was his first time to have something like this in his grasp.

"Don't panic, you bastards! Form a formation!"

"Create a group, and make it quick unless you want to die!"

"What group are you saying? It will just get in the way!"

Hearing those nearby, Radan was not certain on how to proceed. Just like others, he was among the clueless individuals who had been transported into this mysterious Tower.

"It's just similar to those webnovels! Just slay, level up, and go into the next!

"Yeah, it's similar, so fucking what?! These are very real, so get a grip!"

"You all are so damn loud!"

Being left with nothing but only his grandmother's presence, Radan, even when he was a child, was devoid of any basic necessities such as access to average technology; phone and personal computer.

They were a product of slums that only knew filth, nothing more.

He had no idea what to do–

[Your grandmother is thinking about you...]

...except for the fact that he had to survive so he could at least bury his lone grandmother at death's door, who still remembered him despite the angelic being's words of memory erasure.

Finding the nearest hoard of goblins fighting with struggling adventurers, Radan settled in that direction as he ran and screamed with all his might.

"HAAA—!"

Slash!

Appearing in a group of struggling young adventurers, Radan cut the one atop the struggling young man around seventeen to eighteen years old.

"Are you okay?" Extending his unoccupied hand, the young man reached for it as he regained momentum.

Hup!

"T–thank you, Mis– Mister, behind you!"

The goblin that Radan slashed was still alive; the former then lunged at him from behind as it held with its nimble hands a crude dagger.

Slash!

"Ke–uk!" Radan's frail body slumped face first on the ground, his back streak with a diagonal remnant of the goblin's slash.

"Y–you goblin bastard!" The young man, whose short hair was raven-like and had a pair of brown eyes, that Radan helped earlier rushed forward and tackled the goblin with a shield.

Bam!

The already wounded and exhausted goblin, upon being hit by a heavy shield, dissipated into nothingness as its body turned into glimmering purple mist.

[You have slain a Goblin.]

[EXP has been obtained.]

The young man was notified of the system screen, causing him to realize something as he helped Radan to get back on his feet.

"A–are you okay, Mister? I know this isn't the right moment, but I'm Khan. What's yours?" Khan asked him.

"I–I am Radan, and yes, I'm okay. Sigh, I thought I already killed it, but it's my mistake." Radan responded, not letting his guard down against the goblins nearby.

"About that Radan, if you slay a monster then you will receive a message of confirmation. If you didn't receive it, then it means it's not dead yet." Khan told him before he sauntered to the spot of the goblin he killed, where he looted a dimly shining azure rock – Mana Stone.

"Is that so... Thank you, I'll make sure to remember that. By the way, if you don't mind, let's make a group. You'll be the shield and I'll be the attacker." Radan suggested.

"That's a deal Radan! You know I wanted to try holding both shield and sharp weapon, but it's freaking hard considering it's my first time doing this crap. Well, I can't even hold with one hand this crude shield."

After some time, Radan and Khan began slaying a goblin here and there. However, considering their lack of experience, and if the goblins attacked them in a group, the task would then turn to be exponentially difficult.

Slash!

"Fuck! Radan, watch out!"

Five goblins simultaneously jumped at them; three in front of Khan and two behind Radan, each holding a sharp weapon, either dagger or sword.

Clang!

Radan parried the one, but then–

Slash! Slash!

"Ke–uk!"

...the remaining goblin aiming at him had one of his arms slashed as blood dripped down, which also caused him to involuntarily release his grip on the crude sword.

"H–hold them off Khan!" Radan screamed.

"S–shit! S–someone help us!" Khan also shouted, which prompted nearby adventurers to hear his plea as he held his ground against the maddened three goblins in front of him.

Thud.

Dismissing Khan's cry for help, Radan jumped towards the goblin he wounded–

Smack!

...before he began punching it to oblivion.

"RAAAH–!! Urghh! HAAA–!! D–DIE!!"

'A–am I going to die here...?' Radan's consciousness started to fade because of severe blood loss.

"Kriieeeek–!"

Radan then subconsciously looked for the goblin's dagger and stabbed it down...

Stab!

Stab!

"DIEEE! DIEEE! You fucking goblin! RAAAH!"

Ding!

[EXP has been obtained.]

"HAAAH... HAAAH..." Radan's breathing's ragged as he helplessly remained seated on the crimson-filled cold ground.

"R–Radan!" Seeing the lone goblin that Radan did not manage to fend off leaping towards the bloodied man's back, Khan released his hold against the other three in front of him as he ran towards him, sitting on the spot where a monster already dissipated.

Bam!

"Get a grip! We're not going to die here! Shit! There are too many!" Khan screamed at him.

Because each adventurer was tasked to at least take down ten goblins, one could hypothesized that the number of goblins in this green pastures that was now tainted with crimson were ten times more than the number of adventurers.

Twang! Twang!

Facing the four goblins as Radan was regaining his composure despite his battered body, Khan witnessed the two goblins rushing at them being sent flying with two wooden arrows with metallic tip.

"Don't just stand there and come here!" A woman with long white hair and golden eyes shouted at them. She was with other two adventurers; a burly man with a shield while the other was a female with a wooden staff.

Looking at the remaining two goblins rushing at them, Khan hesitated to move.

"For fuck's sake, just move your goddamn feet!"

"Y–Yes!"

Sensing the worsening condition of Radan, Khan assisted him to drag his own two feet.

"Kriiieeek–?"

"Krieee–!"

The two goblins adamant to kill Khan and Radan continued rushing forward–

Twang! Twang!

...only to be put down by the white-haired woman.

Thud. Thud.

[Trial Quest Completion]

Goblins killed: 10/10

Mana Stones collected: 10/10

After some rest and with the help of strangers through the fate's will, Radan managed to complete the trial's objectives, nothing more, nothing less, which was unlike some others who had killed more than ten and collected more than what's necessary.

"Oh my lord, I feel like I'm going to die." Khan sat on the ground, similar to others who finished the first hurdle from this new world.

"T–Thank you... for not leaving me behind." Radan's words caught his newly found companions' attention.

"We're all the same here. We're thrown in this situation without any explanation. You're just lucky that we're not some psychopath or else you're already dead." The white-haired woman said.

"I see..."

After some time, the Trial Quest ended as the same angelic being appeared.

"What a spectacle, adventurers! Many are pleased with your theatrical performance! Hehe." The angelic being giggled.

Snap!

With the snap of her fingers as her golden eyes swept past the physically and mentally exhausted mortals, every survivor was then notified.
