The legend of The King of Swords

CHAPTER 1

THE JOURNEY BEGINS

This is the story of a great swordsman who came from the city of Tokyo in the 1800s. This was a time when magic, ken and martial prowess was on the rise. Ren Kamuzuki was a swordsman who fought for many rulers in his time. He lived with his mom in a city called Edo where he had many friends. Sadly, one day disaster struck- a wave of monsters came, destroyed houses and killed everyone he loved. Luckily, he was saved by a group of exorcists who found him under rubble. 

Jack Kashimoto, the one who saved him, took care of him from age 8 (although he sensed strange power from him) until he was able to take care of himself. He decided that he would become an exorcist and avenge the death of his parents.

At age 16, he joined the Martial Saint academy. Throughout his time in the academy, he made friends for life. One of his closest friends was Lin Miyu. They went through everything together: exams, trials, even hunting. Before they could graduate and leave the academy they had to obtain a

"Breaker" , a weapon that could aid in exercising demons, Miyu obtained hers first, but Ren could hardly manifest his.

When he reached age 21 he graduated from the academy and became pro exorcists as well as his friend Miyu, "We did it Ren! We are finally pro exorcists!" said Miyu.

 After leaving the academy, he was placed in Asakusa in Squad 8 along with Jin Raiken, Lin Miyu, and Lu Feng. He was sent out on a mission by his Captain Red to exorcize a group of demons in Kyoto. 

"You are being tasked with defeating some 2nd grade demons. This shouldn't be a problem with your skills." 

What neither of them knew was that 'they' would be there. "Commander, will someone be coming with me to Kyoto?" asked Ren. "Raiken will be coming with you on this mission." 

"Understood Commander Red. I'll take my leave now to prepare". After leaving Red's office he went to his room and got ready to meet Raiken at the airport. Before he left for the airport, Lu Feng told him something, "A word of advice when working with Raiken, he's kind of a hothead so be careful."

Later on

 When Ren reached the train station he sensed a strange power nearby as if he was being watched. Using his training, he released some of his ken, this was a skill called "domain". After he did this, he felt something strong coming towards him. It was Raiken. He drew his blade "Kaito, Come forth at once!"(Raiken has the ability of telekinesis) Ren dodged the attack and stepped back, "You must be Raiken." "And you're Ren." 

After they got acquainted with each other, they went on the train and headed to Tokyo. On the way they had a bowl of ramen, tofu among other things, but Ren only ate the ramen while Raiken devoured more than half of the train's food supply. "This is delicious, want some Kamuzuki?" "No thanks, I'm full(hog)." Ren was disgusted by the way in which Raiken was eating. Once they arrived in Tokyo they headed to Asakusa. Upon arriving at Asakusa they saw something strange 

"What is this, what am I looking at?" Raiken asked,

 "A massacre." Ren replied

Blood of humans everywhere, and bodies stacked up like pyramids. The two headed further into the village and saw dead demons as well "What's happening here, Commander said that there would be 2nd grade demons but this seems to be the work of a 1st grade demon?" Suddenly they felt a heavy presence.

 "So you're the one they call the child of the prophecy, guess this is my lucky day, DIEEE!" The demon lunged forward at the boys. Ren and Raiken dodge the attack and summon their weapons. Ren decided not to summon his weapon but instead drew a katana and imbued it with hatsu. They began to fight, and even though the demon was outnumbered it wasn't a challenge for him. 

 "Is this the best you've got? You will regret ever challenging me Draco 8th of the 12 Kings. " His physique was of a fit demi human with black hair and blue eyes. He was relentless, Raiken decided to push back Ren and fight the demon on his own. His plan was futile as he was trying to be the mc when he's not. " Scarrow Slash" He used an attack on the demon , and it hit but " Not even a scratch!" Ren decided to switch out with Raiken and started to attack Draco. Something was different though, it seemed as if Draco was on the defensive more than the offensive. His behavior was odd for a demon of a high class as himself, then Ren landed a successful hit on Draco and it managed to damage him "So this is the power you possess. Ugh what is this aura coming out from you?

It can't be." Something drastic began, Ren snapped it was 

 As if something or someone from the past flooded his mind "YOU, you were the one who killed my parents when I was 8,and after 13 years I finally found you." Ren's ken erupted drastically, this level of ken was of a S grade martial prowess level or even higher, the ground trembled like an earthquake and a volcano erupting at the same time. This power was dangerous for any one being. Ren began to walk forward and summoned his breaker a nodachi "Sword that splits the heavens Tai xu!" and continuously attacked Draco then Kamuzuki lifted his sword "Broken universe, equinox slash" Draco was sliced in half and the battle was over and it was time to rest.

When they returned back to HQ, the commander had asked to speak with him about what happened in Kyoto. "I know you must have a lot of questions. In due time you will know everything, but for now I'll explain who you really are." The commander proceeded to explain to Ren that he came from a long line of Kamuzuki who all fought for the greater good of humanity. "You have the power to help keep the world safe or plunge it into utter darkness. What you do with this power is up to you." After hearing all of this Ren made up his mind. " I don't know how to fully master this power, but I will strive to harness and control this power for good. 

Chapter 2 

The Challenges ahead

 A year had passed and after Ren learned about his tremendous power he was given two years to train and master this power "I believe you are more than capable of doing this." the Commander stated. So he decided that he would train himself to be able to control his power, but that wouldn't be so easy of a task "This is going to be a long and tiring 2 years." Kamuzuki sighed. Although this journey would be hard for him he went to someone he knew was well versed in his family's lineage "Time to go see grandpa."

Kamuzuki went to Chinatown in Hong Kong to meet his grandfather who lived on a hill in a house made of spruce wood and stone. He went up to the door and knocked 3 times. A woman opened the door 

 "Who are you young man" She asked 

 "My name is Ren Kamuzuki and I'm here to see my Grandfather Keizer Kamuzuki."

As soon as she heard his name she let him in and took him to see his grandfather. "Mr. Kamuzuki, your grandson is here to see you."

" So they have finally told you about your lineage. Boy have you come for wisdom or for power." His grandfather was sitting in a Komodo on the balcony. "Hello grandpa, hope you've been well, yes they have told me and that's why I need your help." Ren went ahead and explained everything that happened last year. His grandfather understood the situation and decided to tell Ren the true story of the Kamuzuki clan. "Thousands of years ago our ancestor Fen Li Kamuzuki was in a war with the demon king of that time. He fought valiantly. After he won the war the gods bestowed upon him the power to destroy gods and demons." he stated 

" Severed universe". 

Keizer went ahead and explained that over time each male member of the family was trained to master this sword art of the severed universe "Even your father was trained before his fainted death." 

…

 After he fully debriefed his grandfather on the situation. His grandfather decided to train him to master this art. " This won't be an easy task, are you ready?" He asked, "Yes, let's do it."

 The first trial was meditation (Meditating under a waterfall for 2 hours, then on a rock in a stream for an hour). For Ren to be able to fully control the mass amounts of martial prowess he would need to clear his mind and concentrate on harnessing that power. " Come on, you can do better than this." After meditation was sword training, this would help him to hone the art of the blade to then become a Semi-Grade Swordsman (at his current level he's at least a 7 grade). To practice the sword he sparred with swordsmen of the same level of sword skill as him, unfortunately for him or fortunately for his sparring partner he wasn't allowed to use his breaker. A week has passed and Ren has gotten much stronger. " Although his power and martial prowess have increased, he still has a long way to go to reach my level of power." 

Once he finished sword training Ren trained to be able to master ken that way it wouldn't take him a while to imbue his swords and activate ken techniques. It was time for the final trial, this trial would be the hardest than all of the others 

" Your final trial is to fight ME!" Keizer stated with excitement

" Play Hyorinmaru" 

" Sword that splits the heavens Tai xu"

Keizer dashed at him with killer instinct to attack Ren, and he dodged the attack with some ease. They swung their swords at each other swiftly like thunder, the battle went on for an hour and it ended in a flash. 

" You are finally ready for anything that comes your way!" Keizer said with joy

"Thanks grandpa, I really appreciate your help, I won't let you down." Ren stated with gratitude.

And with that Ren's training was over and he headed back to Asakusa to meet up with Miyu.

Later

" This Kamuzuki is seeming to be more of a nuisance than I thought." a voice said 

" Should I deal with him, master?" a voice asked 

" Hmm, yes i suppose you should, if you succeed I'll reward you." 

 Chapter 3

The Battle Begins

When Ren arrived in Asakusa he headed to HQ to meet up with his friends Lin Miyu and Jin Raiken. They all met up and told each other what they had done over the 1 year time period they were away from each other

Raiken went back home to Japan to go visit his parents and train to get stronger.

Miyu on the other hand stayed at HQ to practice her healing magic so that she wouldn't feel left out from the gang

" It's good to see you all."

" Yeah I'm glad to see you Ren and Jin."

" Ren, I want to see how strong you've gotten. Duel me!"

Raiken challenged Ren to a duel in the center of the HQ, although the winner of the match was already decided, the match began and Ren defeated Raiken with ease. All fun and games were suddenly put to a halt as an emergency squad meeting for a debrief was held with all the squads. Squads 1,3,6,4, and squad 8 were at the meeting. 

" As you are all aware, there has been an influx in demon activity since Draco was defeated. As such we shall have more surveillance around the districts of interest." The commander of Squad 1 and the leader of the Exorcist Corp "Kang Len" spoke with diligence.

After the debrief happened Commander Red put the squad in pairs, Miyu and Feng were put together for group A which left Ren and Raiken in group B, group A was tasked with protecting Asakusa while Ren's group group B was tasked with going to Kyoto as there was a high appearance of demons there. So everyone said their goodbyes and went their separate ways.

When Ren and Raiken arrived at the train station something felt off. There were tickets already there for them. " Maybe it was the Captain?" Ren thought to himself, " But the captain hadn't told us about it." It was too late to change anything, so they went on the train and headed to Kyoto. While on the way to Kyoto they encountered some demons that were attacking the train. Ren dealt with the demons while Raiken protected the other passengers. Once they arrived at Kyoto they told the soldiers to make sure that the passengers got to their destination safely and to check on the train itself.

Days passed and everything was going smoothly for them, and the rise of demons in Kyoto had decreased drastically. Ren decided to send a letter to Asakusa to update the Captain of what had happened in Kyoto. Before he could send off the letter Raiken dashed into the room and told Ren that they had to head back to HQ immediately because it was under attack "WE HAVE NO TIME TO WASTE LETS GO!" Raiken activated a teleportation spell called "transport". 

When they arrived back at HQ they saw a mob of demons as well as exorcists fighting to the death. Ren and Raiken sprung into action, summoning their swords to fight. The battle went on for hours, the amount of demons went down drastically, but unfortunately the same amount of exorcists died. The only question now was how we're the demons able to even find HQ and get past the barrier 

"This does make any sense, how could they have gotten in? Ren thought to himself

"The only way for anyone to get past the barrier is if someone let them in."

 As the support squad (Squad 4) checked on everyone they realized that the Captain was injured, so Lin tried to heal Red but it was to no avail he was going to die. Before he died he told everyone in Squad 8 to gather around him and told them something of importance. "There's something you all need to know, for the past years Squad 8 was known as the weakest of the squads, but although it was the weakest it was tasked with finding the mole in the Squads." Red went on to tell the location of all the information that they had gathered over the years. "Someone will be coming to Squad 8 to replace me, I wish you all good luck." Red's heart stopped beating and one of the greatest exorcists in history had just died. 

A funeral was held at the exorcist graveyard. All members of Squad 8 mourned the loss of the captain so made a vow to never let any member in the Squadroon die again. Everyone wondered who would be the new captain for Squad 8 but suddenly a voice was heard coming closer and closer to the grave. "It's a shame you had to die Jet, we never got to see who could drink more." It was Jack, Ren was shocked to see Jack as he hadn't seen him in a long time since he was 16. "It's been a while kid, u miss me." 

Jack introduced himself to all the squad members as the new captain of the squad. He was someone who was very close to Red as they were paired when they were just pro exorcists like us. " I look forward to working with you all." Now the only matter at hand now is to decide how to strike back at the enemy. "They may have won the battle but they won't win the war."

Chapter 4

The battle continues 

Several days passed and the hunt to find out about the mole as well as to plan an attack on the demons was ongoing, hours used on leads and training. Jack decided that instead of wasting our time trying to accomplish two tasks we should focus on the more important task at hand "Discovering the mole in the Corp." 

They decided as a squad on that and retraced their steps to see if they missed anything, they did miss something, before the new commander of the Corp was here there was someone before him "Lance Helmsworth" he was one of the greatest exorcists during his time, but one day he was assassinated. "Whatever killed him has yet to be determined, but for now they say that it was one of the 12." 

Ren wondered to himself how someone stated to be one of the strongest exorcists could die so easily to one of the 12. Here's what the squad found interesting, after Helmsworth died the current commander Lehung came out of nowhere and was promoted to commander in less than six months. 

"If Len managed to get to the rank of Commander in less than six months, it would take at least 4 years for the average exorcist." Jack stated "Who is this monster, it can't be!" Raiken exclaimed

"There's no time to waste, let's head to Squad 1 right away!"

The plan was made Feng, Miyu and Smith would attack first as a decoy then Jack, Jin and Ren would go around the back. It was now or never for the Squad, this mission wasn't just to snuff out a mole but to avenge the captain's death. 

Once they arrived at Squad 1 HQ they put the plan to action. Everyone manifested their breakers and began the onslaught. Their enemies dropped one by one as they got closer and closer to the main gate, but then an attack came out of nowhere

"Saber slam" this attack was from Peter, one of the big 3 in Squad 1's hierarchy. He is a force to be reckoned with. Though he is strong, Feng and the others could fairly handle themselves against him. Jack's team managed to infiltrate the HQ and get to the main hall. 

They met Len and his right hand man Steven Wonk, "What a surprise, i was expecting that you would figure out my secret, but not so soon". Something strange began to happen to Len and Steven's ken began changing them from light ken to dark ken, "It is as I feared, the Commander was actually the head of the 12 kings Kai." Jack, Raiken and Ren manifested their breakers and launched at both of them. This attack was pointless as they were swatted away like flies.

The battle went on and it was a one sided battle for a while until the power inside Ren activated and the battle finally got even. Jack was no joke though, his swordsmanship level was at a Semi-Grade Swordsman (like Ren). The battle got heated " Broken Universe Dimension Slash" Len focused on Ren not letting him get a break to breathe or even defend himself from attacks, Steven on the other hand challenged Jack and Raiken to fight off and prevent them from joining Ren. 

Attacks back and forth from both sides on the battlefield, they managed to survive and last longer than Len and Steven thought they could. 

A portal began to open up behind Len and Steven, they were planning to escape but the portal was taking a long while to open. Before they could leave Steven knocked out Raiken so it was just left up to Ren and Jack to defeat them. Ren was able to make a scar on Len with a new ability "Destruction Breaker" and Jack delivered a critical hit on Steven "Black Ash" (narrator here: Jack's ability allows him to control flames to the strongest degree). After this happened both Ren and Jack were worn out and the portal was fully open, so Len escaped with Steven. " So this is the power of Broken Universe, I will be waiting for you KAMUZUKI!" The battle ended and it was time to prepare for the war.

Chapter 5

THE FINAL BATTLE 

The battle between Squad 8 and Squad 1 resulted in a lot of deaths and injured exorcists. They were able to heal the injured and report to the rest of the Squads the truth about Squad 1 and the Commander. The Bureau decided to launch an attack on the demon realm since they were able to keep the portal used by Len open, 

"Squad 6 thanks you Jack for solving something that took over 2 years to solve"

Mia captain of Squad 6 commended Jack

Although Jack was grateful, he couldn't take the credit for something that he didn't do all by himself. " I appreciate the gratitude but I couldn't have done it without Ren and the others." 

A couple days passed and everyone began to make plans respectively on how to launch an attack on the Demon Realm, they had Squad 3 (recon squad) go to the demon realm to check out the environment. When they came back they told us that there is a castle about 400m after you exit the portal, the castle is guarded with demons and demi-humans alike. The plan was to send Recon back to the Demon Realm, when the coast was clear the rest of the Squads would send the best of their exorcists to go and attack the castle.

The plan went smoothly for the most part but when they reached the castle they realized that there were more demons present than expected. "We knew that it wouldn't be so easy but seriously!" "Idiot keep your voice down."

 Squad 4 went in ahead and broke down the gate, BAM! All the exorcists dashed into the castle and launched an attack. Jack, Ren, the other squad captains and their Second in command (private-class exorcists) all went to attack the kings. The plan was in motion and the war was fierce, Ren and Jack went to attack Len since they had a score to settle with him. Jack was hit with an attack from Steven "Were getting close. Ren, go ahead, I'll hold this bozo off." "Thanks." 

 Ren continued to look for Len, when he found him he realized that he was very calm. His hair white as snow, his skin was like chocolate, he was wearing a white suit with a black tie. "You know Ren, that power of yours isn't just your own, there's an opposite to it." Len stated fiercely "Devour Cronox, time to fight and die a warrior's death." 

"Tai xu" Len and Ren summoned their breakers and the battle began.

Time passed and neither side of the battle would let up, but it was going to end soon. Ren and Len both sent out a fury of attacks not holding anything back, their ken was slowly depleting `AHHHHH!", they made a sudden transformation turning into demigods of light and darkness respectively. Broken Universe became "Severed Universe" and Destroy Cronox became "Crumble Cronos' (a katana). Their ken got restored and they continued to fight until their final attacks began "Dimension Rift" 

"Time Crack"

The attacks hit and they were both damaged badly, Jack came just in time to heal Ren. The battle was finally over and the exorcists won " Sigh, I knew that it wouldn't be easy but wow. You really are something Ren, thank you for a warrior's death." "You're welcome Len, maybe in another life under different circumstances we would've been friends." Everyone who survived the battle headed back to the portal and headed to Asakusa. We had a funeral to mourn the loss of all the fallen exorcists. After this whoever fought in the battle and survived got promoted to private class exorcists, Ren got promoted to Special-Class exorcists for defeating 2 of the 12 kings. 

After the war ended Ren continued to slay demons and then on the 23rd of March 1899 he tied the knot with Miyu and had a child named Rin Kamuzuki. He would later be promoted to the Captain of Squad 8 at age 27. A new age of demons came upon earth called spirits. 

"Ready to go slay some demons Squad 8!

"YEAH!"

"LETS GO!"
