Chapter 49: Ride of a Lifetime
Mako started to go down, causing Aurelie to try to balance him the best she could as he scrambled beneath her.
“Easy, boy!” Aurelie coaxed, sending a scathing look at the other rider.
Mako regained his footing and continued to canter. Aurelie brought Mako to a walk, and Tobin ran over to check the horse out.
“Are you alright?” Tobin asked breathlessly. “She didn’t even look up!”
“That, sadly, is a common occurrence in the warm up ring,” Aurelie replied.
“Well warm up quickly and get out of here,” Tobin muttered.
Aurelie carefully negotiated the warmup ring and managed to jump Mako a few more times before calling it a day. Mako seemed totally relaxed and ready for the big job ahead.
Aurelie was pleased by the attention Tobin took in caring for Mako, and gave him a big hug after they put Mako away for the night.
“Thank you for doing this,” Aurelie whispered. “I appreciate you so much.”
Tobin silenced her with a kiss, “I wouldn’t miss this for anything.”
