The Killing at District 12

There were mysterious murders taking place at District 12 every last weekend of the month and the serial killer was at large. "Our killer was not just deliberately peeling of the face of his victims. He was also eviscerating their body and purging out their organs, particularly their hearts. It was like the killer wanted to remove everything that made one human." Two people who used to be high school friends and also shared a painful past; both lost a loved one on an incident that happened six years ago decided to join hands to solve this mystery. One was retired a forensic anthropologist who turned a new leaf and chose to become a professor at a medical school While the other was a former law enforcement officer who had decided to be into seminary and was just a step away from becoming an officially ordained priest Will they be able to identify the notorious killer that lurked the shadows of their district??? DUPLICATED INVESTIGATION

"What did you say?? Did you just said that you were already about to catch the killer??? Is that what you are really trying to tell us right now?"

Santina found the need to ask and verify, lest they just heard him wrongly. But the self- satisfied smile that Daniel gave her afterward answered her question way before he even uttered a word.

"You have been both very helpful. But I think we could already take it from here."

He answered in a roundabout manner, and although his implied dismissal was obviously there as he replied to Santina, they chose to brush it aside.

"You said you have a suspect already. Is he in custody now? How---? Where???"

Mikael inquired with his new found curiosity.

Too many questions were drifting not only in his but at Santina's mind as well. They wanted to know more about the case, but of course, like an annoying character as he was meant to be, in the first place, Daniel did not spare them with any further details.

"Now Brother Kel, you know I can't tell you that, don't you???"

Daniel was now busy shuffling the paper on his desk. His voice was brisk and was laced with an almost cheerily official tone when he said that.

"Why not???"

Santina argued and the other party replied to her with a matter of fact tone.

"Procedural restriction. Well, you know??? The typical technicalities here and there. But we were very grateful for your assistance. Very grateful, indeed. Don't worry and be rest assured that we will give your team a duly recognition for everything that you have done to this case once we were done and wrapped everything up together."

It was only then that realization finally dawned on them.

The reason why Daniel was not exactly paying them serious attention right from the start was not that he did not like the case, nor he was not thinking of taking it.

In fact, it was the complete opposite! The fact was that the other party had already started his own investigation about the case and he just initially did not plan to tell them about it as he viewed the case a confidential matter.

It was unsure when did he start working on the same case but what bothered Santina and Mikael the most was why did they have to conduct a separate investigation in the first place?

No matter how hard they try to rationalize this sudden turn of events, they still could not understand the logic behind why there was even a need for the Bureau to use and a different team for investigation?

They were asked to do it first, yet without informing them, someone else conducted a separate investigation. Why was that?

It was not like they conducted this investigation in secret out of their own accord. Officer Aragon, requested them to do it himself. In fact, it was also the Chief of Police who instructed them to convince the head of the National Investigation Team to take a look at their case.

Yet from the current look of it, it seemed like they were actually the one being deliberately cast out and dismissed in the case instead.

Little did they know that only when Officer Aragon was sent overseas to receive his treatment, did Daniel took over the monitoring of the case at the dumpsite.

"We are asked to assist in this case by Officer Aragon himself."

Mikael's voice dropped in a dead-serious tone this time but Daniel only shrugged his shoulder.

"Well, it is a pity though that the Chief of Police was not here then. As you know, he had flown overseas for the treatment of his heart ailment. But if ever he were here, I am sure that he would agree with me that the Department can already handle the situation on its own from this point onward. Of course, you guys will both get paid for your services."

Daniel tried to reassure them again as though that was what they were most concerned about at that moment.
